Quiet night at Charlestown Breachway... First started to Quonny but turned around when I saw eight sleds in the parking lot and went to Plan B - C-Town (shoulda started there anyway, usually bigger fish and less people)...

Got down to C-Town and ran into Iceman, Edna (aka Knobby), Dan, and Albert the Dutchman (who caught his first keeper bass on his first time fishing the salt in America)... Just the 5 of us there for most of the night.

2nd drift, light hit on the eel, decent run, and my only bass of the night. Nice fish around high twenties, low thirties (it looked bigger out on the rocks :p )... 44-45 inch fish... My sister in law is in from Vegas and will get to try some striper as I promised my wife I'd keep one tonight ;) ... Will weigh it tomorrow and see if there is a challenge in the year long...

Had just two other taps all in the next few hours. A couple smaller bass were caught and some blues trashed some eels but I figured I'd get some sleep and the fish on ice - not that it's needed tonight after the wind started NW....

Can't complain about that, nice fish for November. Schoolie and I hit bass, blues and the later came on some really game hickory shad. That was the first time I've caught them and I couldn't believe how hard they were slamming my plastic. The bass were all small schoolies, blues under maybe 8 lb average and some of those shad were more fun than the bass :).

It was a nice day up until the rock wall I drifted up on, which then proceeded to shear off my forward transducer mounted on my trolling motor. If my boating equipment failures continue, I'm going to have to get a 2nd job to keep up with the mounting costs :(.

Way to go John! That's a nice catch. Like they say, it ain't over til it's over. Was it on your first cast there?

GS, that's too bad about more boating woes. Atleast you caught fish. See why I sold my hole in the water that you pour money into, my father was right :(

Hey , are you going on the cod trip?

GS you have had the worst luck on the boat all year. Hope things get better. I used to get a few of those shad in the North River this time of year and they are aggressive. John that bass does not count! ;)

You got that right, but I knew that going into it in the 80's. Sometimes it get's a little much and this year has certainly been one of them. Am I going on the Cod trip, sure am...figure let the other guy have the boat worries. I'm just not sure you guys want me near anything with a motor though :).

Edna, it kept getting smaller  (the fish - come on people!!!). The more I looked at it I realised that I was overguestimating the size. And when I was carrting it back to the car, I KNEW it would be tough to push 30 pounds... and it didn't - sigh. It looked bigger than this last night, eh??? Maybe someone swapped fish on me??

The fish had big shoulders but a skinny butt & tail. She must have been pumping steroids because if she was any traditional striped gal - she woulda had a fat, uhh, butt... ;)

Still had fun though. It was nice to get to sleep by midnight after a night in the surf... How did you guys do after I left?

GS - you're a magnet to rocks!! It was a nice day up until the rock wall I drifted up on, which then proceeded to shear off my forward transducer mounted on my trolling motor How the heck did you "drift upon" a ROCK WALL?? Did it like creep up to you and smack the tranducer when you weren't looking?? OK - I'm only busting your stones but I've seen how you work an area tightly and you marine parts store is all the better because of it  BTW - how did the Schoolie Girl do? Did Mary get any fish? and yes, those shad can be a lot of fun on light tackle...

John, congratulations on the biggest November fish yet.

GS, hope you cna get your boating woes fixed or at least ge tthem out of the way this year and start off next year with a clean slate.

JHABS, Black Bear on 44 tries to keep a few eels year round. The upside is that you know you gots eels when you leave home.

John S.M. got fish, all three species in fact. He's got to get himself some braid thou, mono and finesse baits in current and depth make it tough to detect those bites.

John R...nothing else that night except for a few blue chomps...and you're right- I think it was "the Dutch Touch" who switched fish with you.

John, great fishing with ya! Thought she would of weighed more myself? VERY respectable fish nonetheless. Fished it another hour - nothing going on + Knobby and myself had to drive back to NYC - got home 3:15 AM. The "Dutch Touch" had a great time fishing the salt for the first time, funny he put on 2 stripers - they just attached themselves to his eels - it's always great to watch someone nail their first striper (keeper to boot), do you remember your first beer? I was just as happy watching Albert getting his first one then me catching one. John - thanks for the eel's and the mono's, the communal feeling of SB was there, we were hanging out, talking about family, busting them on the dutchman a bit, and more importantly catching fish in November. I'll be back there until Thanksgiving b/c it ain't over yet!

Tight lines,

Iceman

Stories from the Rocks 2:

What's also interesting to mention is that our friend Dan had a nice one on, pole bent to rocks for a second (nice fish) when setting the hook then nothing, he was using Gammi 8. When Dan reeled in there was (I'm guessing) a 3 day old huge eel attached to Dan's eel. He must of been so deep into the stripers throat, he pulled out the eel - very strange but funny!

I remain,

Wow nice fish John and to think I gave up weeks ago, oh well there is always next year.

Speaking of the contest are you going to have some kind of ceremony. I think most of the winners are going to be at the plug building party, then we could take some pics and put them up on the board.

Nice fish, but I guess I don't know why you had to ruthlessly slaughter it. Give the poor girl a chance to spawn... unbelievable. Typical meat hunter. I'll be you was hopin' that fish was 33lbs.5oz, huh? Just couldn't quite match the shear lunker catching abilities of the Monster!

When you left Mass, I was but the learner, now I am the master.

Yeah, I caught fish... I was very competitive. I managed a tie in the multi-species category. We each had 3 species. I was very close in the hickory shad category. Bluefish... he landed around 4... I was close to that (1). And the bass would have been alot closer if it hadn't been for that darn helicopter. It was flying around and really distracting me. And I think Bob was cheating... but I can't prove that.

My daughter has recently learned the art of excuses... I hurt my leg so I took the candy... nice one. I thought I'd give it a try.

We had a good time and in GS's defense, that rock wall was submerged and really tough to see.
