Speaking of Lamis, any one ever see the ones at the Natick Outdoors store? There are ten footers, with nice guides, fugi's I think, they are specially made for the store. They have casting , and spinning, and they are marked CCSURF. I tried to see if there was a model number on the blanks but I could not find any.

I own 2 lamiglass custom rod 1 is 9"6" for casting eels and the other is a 9ft for plugging and artificials. I have my 9ft paired with a Daiwa Emblem XT 5000 and you don't even have to put power behind the cast to get 100+ yards a flick of the wrist will do it. It also works plugs and artificials with ease. I reccomend it highly I am not sure of the model though. I picked it up at CMS in dartmouth 4 years ago for 165 bucks.

I have the XS10MC 10' Lami that isn't made anymore. It's a conventional but is SWEET. It's rated 1 - 5 oz.

On this wednesday I should be taking delivery of my custom rod made on the 10' 1pc Lami GSB120-1L Blank. I'm very excited about this rod! Steve in Mass will see it if I get it before he invades the Jersey Shore again this weekend. Lami rocks!!!

Like Arby I have the XS10MC 10' Lami that isn't made anymore. It's a conventional I also have this blank as a spinner XS10MS matched with a nautil 6500gv pro . Lamis are nice rods I can cast all night with these rods . My St croix I have is a sc106MHC and I cant cast it all night with 4oz gives my back spasms and serious pain . maybe its just me ! lamis are light and strong and can cast distance nicely .
hows that conv Arby ? im going out Wed night when I get done with the leaves !

I have 2 - 10' lami's as well. But for a 9 footer I'd go with the XRA 1083 , the ones BM always breaks. I've cast it before and it is sweet. Just don't go over 2 oz with it.

I've been posting on SOL about the same thing and am still up in the air on what would be the best blank to use for my plastic from the beach/jetty/ditch. I know the ditch is a weight thing and depth issue and know I'm never going to get my stuff down where those big ones live, but that's secondary. I just want to get 3 things; distance, sufficient balls and the most important thing sensitivity.

BM I'd really, I mean really like to meet up with you some day if you still have an intact XRA1083. Ron replied to my email and suggested that blank would be good for my baits, yet others on SOL seem to think it's too light. Arby's getting the blank TimS recommended, but then I look at the 10 tip size as compared to my usual 5.5 and 6 on my boat rods and think; how can that be sensitive enough. I need to get with some of you guys to take some casts with some of these longer sticks and BM I'm targetting you bud. I really want to throw my plastic on one of those XRA1083 or maybe XRA1204 rods. Maybe at the plug swap/plug building party we can meet up before hand to throw some plastic. Better yet join me for a twinky trip with Slip at the Thames and bring one along. If I can feel a 12-24 inch schoolie pick up my bait, then it's sensitive enough :).

Got stripers: I am not an expert on rods but to find a rod with those qualities is gonna be tough. I guess what i am wondering is if you want a rod with balls do you mean stiff? If so with my experince with a stiff rod you lose casting distance and senstivity. If thats not it and you want a strong rod that can take a beaten there are lots of options out there i just wouldn't go with graphite you drop it down the rocks there is a good chance it will break.

The GSB120-1L is pretty sensitive from what the builder has told me. It might not be the best bet for the "Ditch" but I've used the builders rod in Montauk and it works there fine. I usually use the 8' St. Croix Ben Doerr. It's fantastic for the NJ Surf but I felt completely undergunned for Montauk. That's what made my decision in the Lami. If you want something with a little more backbone, how about the 9' Breakaway? The LDFS90M. That is a sweet rod. It's rated 2-4oz and is a 1 piece. The 9.5'er (the LDFS96-2M) is rated 1-3 oz but is a 2 piece. I think EdJ on SOL has one. You can ask him how he likes it.

Chris, My St. Croix was in the shop with a broken guide so I used the XS10MC all this past weekend for plugging. :) Sweeeet....

When I say sufficient balls, I don't mean I want a meat stick, or something I can move a 40 lber in the Ditch with. I mean sufficient only in that if I carefully use my experience, play a large fish smartly and get lucky if cover/structure fits into the picture, that I will have sufficient backbone down at the butt or lower part of the rod when I need it. I will not loose sleep over a lost fish, even a 50, I'd rather have something that is better at distance and sensitivity and comes up short on the meat end.

I have an 11' Lami M3 for plugging. It'll send a plug about half way to London and a one ounce jig almost that far. I love it, especially with a Sustain 5000 on it (it's pretty good with a 4500 SS, too).

It's really old and I got it used at Weekapog (sp?) B&T in Westerly and put a new reel seat on it.

I have a Lami GSH 108-2H for schoolie fishing. GSH means steelhead rod. Its very nice.

I also fished about 12 years with a GSH 136-2MH. Great rod for eels and 2 OZ plugs. I caught more fish on that rod than all my other rods put together. Its 11.5 feet long which I like when around big boulders but its 2 piece so it breaks down for putting in the car. Its a spinner so I never use it anymore but for a long time it was my main weapon.

I'm building a Lami Arra XRA 1205 convention to try at the Ditch. When the tide is down I like longer rod but when its up , I like my 9 footer. How spoiled can you get. I not only want a Ditch stick , but a seperate one for high or low tide! :) Sometimes I have to laugh at myself.
