View Full Version : Who thinks Fisherwoman brags?
4Stripers 08-08-2000, 12:45 PM I have been reading the board lately and have come to a conclusion. I think Fisherwoman talks way to much about her catch. For instance if i went out and caught a nice size stiper I would post on the board i caught a good sized striped or i might esimate the weight. FIsherwoman on the other hand seems to brag the exact weight and number. I'm sorry but if you weigh your fish to the hundreths and then brag about that exact weight you have problems!!!!!!! I have read numerous reports by fisherwoman that she caught 73 and lost 7. If I had a day of fishing of thta quality I would report to the board that I had a good day of fishing and not report my exact total of caught fish as fisherwoman does. I even recall her tallying her total number of fish for the season to the exact digit!!!!!!!! This is ridiculous and seemd to be a form of bragging to others about her amazing fishing abilities, or so she thinks. Reports that I like are those of John R and #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&. They give info on there succes but don't go into such detail. They also post meesages that don't talk about therer catches. All fisherwoman does is post her daily catch and waits for replies that say"nice job fisherwoman" and "you're a great fisherman fisherwoman". She doesn't deserve these praises at all. For an example of this read a previous report by her entitles, finally some fishies. She reports a catch of three bluefish and states the weights of one of them being 8.12 poounds. What the hell ids this. Just say it was an eight pounder. She has done this on many different occasions and i'm sick and tired of it. Thanks for reading this message and good luck fishing, 4stripers(Jay)
JohnR 08-08-2000, 02:00 PM Ah yes!!! A good fight!! Fisherwoman in one corner and Jay-Man 4Stripers in the other...
Rules of this event are:
1) No using cut bait
2) All hooks must be dull and rusty
3) No hitting below the gills
4) Alright, so I'm getting stupid here....
4Stripers, come on man, no big deal. Don't read her posts if it bothers you. Or just chime in like you did...a little pot stirring from someone other than #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&
I will say that she is an excellent angler having fished with her on numerous occasions. She also oozes enthusiasm about fishing for stripers even though it may read like a body count at times. She often replies to other people's questions to offer advice - not just how many fish caught....
No big deal, right?
down+east 08-08-2000, 02:35 PM she gives advise when needed but she justs wants everyone to know that she catches fish
Swamp_Yankee 08-08-2000, 04:50 PM Nobody talks 'bout fisherwoman that way !. Buzz off and tell it your way if you like . Catch and release, Live and Let live. She would whup your sorry self in a fishing contest any day.
eelman 08-08-2000, 06:09 PM You all know,I had to jump all over this one!! My kind of stuff!!No seriously,I aggree that fisherwomen sometimes over does it on the numbers thing,we all know by now how good she is at catching school bass. She reminds me a little of dave pickering in that regard. Its the big fish that count.
On the other hand, her posts hurt no-one !! And, if she wants to tell everyone how many bass she caught, thats her perogotive!! If you dont like it,dont read it!!
As far as the weight thing,I find it hard to understand how someone can be into a blitz of fish while in the water in waders, and still take the time out to record each and every fish down to the hundreth of a pound!! Thats another story, with all the fish she has caught you would think that by now its not that important, use estimates.
There is a saying that I admire from old frank daignault!! (and I dont admire much from him)
"You may be the hero of the beach in the day,But the masters come out at night" So very true!! In the begining I had a problem with her posts being to "enticing" for the board,Dont tease the masses,Its like offering a steak to a dog and, only giving him the fat!!
Its wise to keep a tight lip sometimes,If you tell people you caught a gazzilion school bass, you have to expect there going to ask where,if you dont tell, your looked upon like a tease!! Not good to brag that much.
I had a blitz of school bass a week ago and told everyone on the board where they were.Frankly, schoolie fishing is for the early spring,I want to hear about the cows!!
Sorry fisherwomen but,I say what I feel in my posts,I have nothing against you at all personally but sometimes, you over do the schoolie thing!!
Hi! I am still fairly new to this site and am not in any position to pass judgement or to take sides. I will say that I truly enjoy this site and that I can't wait to get home from work and check out the latest. It sure seems to help me get though those dry spells when I cannot make it to the beach (happens all too often unfortunately!!!) and I don't seem to mind anyones comments! If I did I would stop visiting this site altogether!
My whole view is that we are all here because of a common interest...you know, a love for fishing!!! CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG???!?
As far as Fisherwoman is concerned, well I said I was not here for judgement purposes but I will say that I will continue to read her comments and everyone elses. If I choose not to like her comments or any one elses that is my own decision, but I'm not going to make a big stink out of it! So what IS the big deal?
FOR YOU FISHERWOMAN: Just remember that there are people out there like me that still need to know that woman CAN go fishing, and I felt really good to know that I wasn't the only woman out there! Please do not get me wrong, I am not here to bash men either, but we can enjoy the sport just as much. Nobody can deny that woman are outnumbered in this sport, so it is hard not to be a little defensive or "braggy".
Of course I realize someone out there probably won't like what I had to say either, so to them I say...TOO BAD BECAUSE YOU REALLY AREN'T GOING TO RAIN ON MY PARADE!!!! I'm still going to keep fishing and being proud of my catches.....just like so many others do.
Patrick 08-08-2000, 11:17 PM To me, Fisherwoman seems to be a lovely lady. She might give a little more information than what is needed but then again, some people give too little information. I really hate it when I see a message like this:
"Caught 5 fish today. Threw it back because I wasn't going to eat it. We've been catching decent fish all week long."
Of course I am being extra vague for emphasis but you know there are some reports like the one above. Those posts always leave me wondering, where are you?; what tide did you fish; where did you catch it?; what did you catch it on; what was the size?; what kind of fish was it? So many people leave out important details.
If Fisherwoman wants to "brag", let her brag. No harm, no foul. I don't think it as bragging, more as upfront and honest.
my $.02
Patrick
fisherwoman 08-09-2000, 01:38 PM 4stripers, for your information, my posts are not for braggring rights, yes we do get into alot of school fish, so what, my information is only for the purpose of letting people know there are still some fish hanging around in the boston area, were as a matter of fact alot of people, including baitcaster and I have been finding it hard to find them this year, it is more to give hope than to brag, I don't need to brag my dear friend, I fish just as hard or harder than most men I know. As for the exact size of the blue fish the other day, the only reason I had the exact weight is because we weighed them in for a year long club tournament that we are in so it was just general info for everyone and that was what they weighed, sorry if I offended you. As for the numbers of fish it is not for braggin rights either, it is because we keep a fishing log to track how the fishing is year after year, at what tides, wind, temp. and time of day or night we get into them, what we caught them on, and for business purposes for our guide service. Obviously you have never read any other types of post from me on trying to help people out with possible gear and line info, tackle or possible fishing spots. Also you don't see me posting daily that I am catching fish. I have been skunked the last 2 days. Thats fishing!!!!!!!!!!!
#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, as for you, with no disrespect intended, you and I just have different interests in fishing, I would rather have 100 fish pulling the other way than sit and wait for 1 big one, don't get me wrong, I enjoy getting a big fish just as much as the next person, but this area is not holding alot of big fish this year and I would rather be having an active day/night on the water. I also am not healthy enough to go out tromping around in the dark and throw the bigger rods. As for the exact weight of those blues, we were not surf fishing we were out on the boat, and weighed the fish in at the tackle shop for our club derby.
For your information, fishing is something I totally love and just like to let people know what is going on, I just get excited, some people get excited about big fish, I just get excited when it is a good day out there and nothing more, so if you don't like my posts, no problem, I just won't post anymore.
One more thing 4stripers, if you are surfing the web to get fishing reports, then you get what you get there are no rules, some people post one way and some people post another way, if you guys don't like what you read then don't read it!!!!! When was the last time you posted a fishing report instead of just reading everyone elses!!!!!!! Or when was the last time you asked for info on spots to go find some fish.
Fisherwoman gone forever
Fishpart 08-09-2000, 02:37 PM 4stripers Thanks a bunch ...NOT some of us like to hear Fisherwoman's reports, now it appears she is "gone forever". I for one don't get out as much as I would like and appreciate soemone like Fisherwoman letting us know there is hope.
schoolie monster 08-09-2000, 02:54 PM Part of this website and message board is supposed to be for fishing reports. Not enough of us, including myself, post reports.
Fisherwoman and baitcaster catch a hell of alot of fish which I have seen in person on numerous, numerous occasions. They put me on the spot where I do most of my schoolie fishing and have offered to take me out and show me some other spots many times.
They are doing their part to let others know what's going on out on the water, since they get their butts out there and put their time in. I for one, appreciate the information and never put any thought into whether or not it was bragging, because I know them to be very genuine, helpful people.
My vote has been cast... keep 'em coming fisherwoman!
It is very dissapionting to know that Fisherwoman would stop posting due to one persons ignorance. Fisherwoman I certainly hope you will check in and see that some people appreciate your posts. If you do read this just remember that if half the people did not do something to annoy the other half, that half wouldn't have anything to bitch about!!!! So my thoughts are that if you enjoy what you do...than who cares??!? Please don't let them cross your lines!!!!
JohnR 08-09-2000, 03:09 PM Fisherwoman, don't let it bother you. It's not worth getting tweaked on these boards but some people, intentionally or not (right #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& ), go out and gut hook someone or in general disrespect someone. Maybe the guy is not getting any (fish that is) or his dog died or something... Or he is just expressing his position in a web typical unfriendly way. People can disagree with you, call you a bragger or whatever but I don't think it carries as much weight with those that know you or have had your help on the board or in the suds...
I, for one, would hate to see you go. Not just because you contribute to this site but beacuse I'd like to think you and Bill as friends. I have learned much from both of you and I know it would be a shame if others did not get a chance to learn from you because of something like this.
Just asking you to rethink your going, you've given alot to the people here and those that only converse with you online would suffer. Not those that throw those darts....
I'll beg or cook dinner or something ...
Got Stripers 08-09-2000, 03:20 PM Being new to this board, I really am clueless about who's who and the nature of past posts. Even so, I'd like to put in my two cents. I frequent about 6 fishing boards and this type of thread comes up from time to time. Information posted by people is offered voluntarily and it's there to read and use as we all see fit. If you don't like someones style or find their posts objectionable, then it's your choice to not read & respond to them. That doesn't mean others might not enjoy them or find something that would benefit them.
It always amazes me when this type of name calling comes up on fishing boards. You'd think we could all just get along, especially in light of our common interest. But then again, it's a mirror of REAL LIFE and not everyone get's along in real life, regardless of whether they have things in common. Personally, I post with the same real life motto I try to live by; if I don't have anything nice to say, I don't say anything at all. Nothing will bring havoc to a fishing board faster than this kind of negative thread. Even though I'm new here, I wanted to comment on this thread. As I have suggested on other boards I'm a regular on, if you feel you must comment keep it civil and if you can't; do it by private email.
Fisherwoman, your post kind of parallels my thread on quality vs quantity and you and I seem to have the same view on that. I too have spent my share of nights fishing for the cows, caught my share of bigs ones, but I'm more comfortable now fishing that 4am-noon bite. To those that think the big ones only come at night, you'd be surprised to know that my 6 biggest fish have all come during the day. My 52 and 55 lbers came in Hingham harbor in 1987 & 1988, back when the poggies were so thick you could walk on them. My other 4 biggest, all in the mid to upper 40's, came during a blitz at Peggotty Beach in Scituate which I stumbled apon during lunch one day some 12 years ago. Caught my share of big ones after dark, but all the cream of the crop have ironically come during the day.
4Stripers I say live and let live, Fisherwoman report away, I enjoy the reading. Tight lines.
Patrick 08-09-2000, 03:43 PM Fisherwoman,
Please don't leave.
That's all I have to say.
Patrick
JohnR 08-09-2000, 03:45 PM I'd like to add on to some of what Got Stripers and some others have said.
The Internet, by nature of its annonymity, allows people to go more loose cannon than they may ordinarily do. That can be good at times or it can turn negative in a situation like this and go overboard. I'll be the first to admit that a good battle with the foundation of a good topic can be alot of fun but sometimes it can get out of hand and burn people. Another person that I've been friendly with over the years has decided to limit his message board travels because of something that happened elsewhere on some other board (I'm not sure what and I didn't think it my place to dig too deep). He say's that he'll swing by occasionally but his contributions and positive attitude won't be easily replaced either.
Let's stir the pot on occassion to keep things smooth and warm and to keep things from getting dull. Let's think a little before we really offend someone.
This thread could have started with a different tone, worded in a different way, and none of this would have happened. I don't think I've ever met the fella that started this thread so I can't say if he's malicious (sp?, the next board will have a spell checker I promise) by nature or not, but let's think a bit before posting. My 2 cents.
striperman 08-09-2000, 06:53 PM This is ridiculous! All fisherwoman does is reports her catches for others. She is just trying to help others catch more fish. And good for her that she keeps pefect and exact records. She can then use that info to decide when to fish and where. She probably also takes down the tide, time, etc, not just the fish count
Tight lines, Derek.
eelman 08-09-2000, 10:44 PM yessirini!! My kind of thread!! Defend yourself fisherwomen!! from the cyber tough guys!!
By the way?? Where is a good spot in boston,to land 100 schoolies?? I realize you are doing what you like and thats fine by me!! Keep posting!
JohnR 08-10-2000, 06:42 AM Bill, the spot to land 100 schoolies in Boston is..... a secret
Bassmaster 08-13-2000, 06:28 PM I agree with you 4Stripers 100%. Boy, can she brag. Goodbye Fisherwomen
