I just got an e-mail from Bass Pro Shops.

They're running a special...buy anything online that's over $125 and you can take 6 months to pay for it interest-free.

They sell Saltigas. :wall:

I wasn't gonna fall for it, but now I'm tempted, at only $133 a month.

Which models are being fished right now?

Or, which model is closest to a VS250? The 4000? 5000? 6000?

The 5000 and 600o are virtually the same reel with one having a deeper spool for more line. They are closer to the VS300. The 4500 is somewhere between the VS200 & 250 but closer to the 200. Great reel, I have two of them. The only draw back in my mind is the line capacity in this size, it took about 270 yards of 50 lb. power pro with backing of of about 25-30 yrds. of 20 lb. big game.

Otherwise, you can't go wrong.

Do these reels breath under water is what I want know? I know the Z's and VS's hold their breath for a long time.

I'm looking forward to the responses. I picked up a 4500 but I haven't used it yet. I hear they can cast really well. We'll have to see how they react to being submerged/in water.

I'm going to have them in the shop this spring. I'm looking foward to taking a real close look at them. I'm always suspicious of new gear. These reels sound pretty well tested though.

Yes they have aqualungs. Never had a problem with mine after dunking it multiple times per trip.

I didn't see the 4500 in my last catalog, just the 4000. It looks like you can find them quite a bit cheaper if you shop around. 6 months to pay is nice, but not if you can save 15% IMO.

Like I said in your other post, I fished a Saltiga 4000 and Saltiga 4500 last year (same reel with different size spools) and had NO problems at all. They are still like new. That was the first year I had no reel problems, including the previous 2 years when I fished a VS150 and VS200.

Also like I said, you can find them MUCH cheaper than at Bass Pro. PM me or talk to Toby about other places to find them cheaper.

270 yards should be plenty, even for the Canal. I could probably get a whole 300 yard spool on there if I used 10# backing and just put on enough to give the PP something to bite into.

The other drawback is the !@#$ing price. :laughs: :smash:

I got the 5000 with an additional 5000GT spool. I think it'll be hangin' of the Breakaway 11'9'' ( 6" cut off the butt). It's a bit much @ 29oz for the Breakaway 10'er I think.

OK, I'm looking at the Daiwa website.

Capacities and specs look identical between the 4500 and 5000 and the 6000 is awful heavy.

What is everyone fishing and what does everyone want to see. I'm not buying a bunch of those things considering the price.... :eek:

I'm thinking of getting a few 4000's and 4500's unless people want to see the 5 and 6.

I went with the 4500(same as 4000 but with bigger spool)because as you state, the 5000 and 6000 are pretty heavy!
The GT spool that JPowers referred to are made only for the 5000 and 6000 unfortunately. They have a smaller lip for better casting, although guys on this site that have used the standard spool state that it still casts very well.
The manual bail is nice so its one less thing to break.

I don't think it will be too heavy Jim. I put an older 300 on my 1209 and it balances very nicely. (it is the older one with the 6 allen screws, weighs 27 1/2 ozs)

how about them taurus's or daiwa emblem pro's ? Im poor and semi mental .

1) Taurus' ... Too much plastic in the body that can break.

2) Daiwa Emblems - Nice reels, but don't like to be dunked.

Chris, the Tauruses are rust buckets. At least the original silver ones were. Supposedly, the anodization is better on them now :huh:

They do have a very sweet drag.

Pete, I went to Daiwa's web site and saw the same thing re: the 4500 and 5000. I'm just :confused: by it all
