View Full Version : Kudos to MSBA Show Volunteers
nightfighter 03-19-2005, 06:20 PM Spent a solid 6 hours at the show today! Bigfish and crew put on a great show. Lots of room, vendors to fill almost any need you have, great fun in the plug turning booth and lots of friends from S-B.com!! If you weren't planning on going tomorrow.....try to.
If you want to get Habs Needles from Mike at the M&D booth, get there early.
At the risk of not mentioning a few folks.... Slip, Capesam, and Mac had an audience the whole time I was there. Thanks guys.
RoyL was all over the place. What the article said was true, a real stand up guy! (Wait til you see his van!)
Saw the luckiest guy I know, Rick from Fore River Tackle. You might recall Fisherwoman asked for our prayers back in December? Well Rick had left Thailand the night before the tsunami!!!! Still he lost 5 friends and the experience has moved him.
Specialist, thanks for the racks. Four wil be installed tomorrow.
Clammer was taking Starfish into Victoria Secret I heard......
Got what I was looking for, rubbah from GS, teasers from Jules, and my Aquaskinz top!
GB, PM me when dates look good for you. Whadya know for a rental for the crew?
JohnR, your site has brought together many new friends for this fisherman. Thank you.
And to those I saw but didn't mention, my time is up!
Ross
PS
Blitz, that rig is gonna be killer of the boats!
Al Hadfield 03-19-2005, 07:00 PM Yes, It was a great show. The long line at opening moved very fast. Lots of good stuff to choose from. I came away with some new plugs, tins, and a new reel I didn’t know I needed. We stayed for three of the seminars, great job. A big thanks to all for the hard work and effort that made this happen. Job well done.
Now for some Spring Stripers.
Al
Karl F 03-19-2005, 07:04 PM To all the volunteers, Thanks for the show that always ushers in "Spring Fever"
Great seeing everybody and everything. Glad to talk to all I did, and sorry I missed some I wanted to see.
BBJ, to borrow your line, it truly was "Sensory Overload".
Tony, (Nib), you get the long distance award, you make a sweet plug, BFL, yer a lucky dude.
Too many folks, and too many things too list... Great Day, Thanks to all!
lurch 03-19-2005, 07:28 PM I was at the show as well! Great show, one of the best of the year! It was nice to see local shops selling product instead of places booking trips to lake ontario and maine (not that there si anything wrong with that!)
My buddy and I got there at 8:30 and there was no one in line. We walked the mall for a while and showed back up at 9:10 and we were like 20th in line. 5 mins later, the line was 3-4 hundred deep....nice to see!
I walked over to M&Ds area as soon as the show started and there were close to 100 people yanking the stuff from the wall...everyone looking for the Habs lures....I got two of them.
It was funny that there was a guy who obviously knew the owners and he got a hidden stash of Habs. I spoke to the guy and he said I knew Mike and it does not hurt to know people....how can I get hooked up like that ;)
I am sorry for not talking to the folks at M&Ds about a rod but I saw the amount of people and I knew you were not going to have time to talk to me about a custom rod.
talked to the folks at CMS and they had a custom 1322 which I bought for under 300$ 15% discount...woo hoo!
one more apology....I am sorry for not stopping to talk to anyone but my buddy did not seem like he wanted to meet people as he does not surf the fishing sites plus his leash was being pulled from home ;)
Bob Thomas 03-19-2005, 07:38 PM That was by far the best MSBA show I've been to!! It was well organized, lots of room, cooler than the past years, and numerous GREAT vendors!!
It was a pleasure seeing everyone, GBOutdoors, Mike, Barb, Salty and the family, GS, Slip, Mac turning away, Capesams, PNG, JoeG, BigFishLarry, Angler, OX the Ditch...who else!!?? I know I'm forgetting someone!!
Enjoyed seeing everything out there and buying most of it!! Great plug turning info....really learned a lot from Slip and Mac...thanks guys!!
Some real nice stuff ther! M&D's was PACKED upon opening...seems everyone had the same idea....ravage the Habs ;)
Kudos to the MSBA crew...great job and nicely laid out! Hope tomorrow as as good, if not BETTER than today! What a like outside at opening! Glad we arrived 45 minutes earlier!!
:buds: to the crew!
mikecc 03-19-2005, 07:41 PM I have to say thanks to the MSBA for taking care of me.
If you guys did not know the main support to my display let go.Patrialy because I forgot 2 scerws to tie the unit together :wall: and overstock with product.
Patrick tracked me down at 11:15 last night. to let me know and to prepair for the damage.
Any other place I don't think would not have gone the extra mile like MSBA did.2 hours of repair and up and running.
We had a great show and expect to do well tomorrow.
Thanks to all our loyal customers who turned out and for the new people which we have met thru the show. :thanks:
BigFish 03-19-2005, 07:43 PM I must mention how impressed I am by all of you kind folk who frequent this site and attended the show today. Your kindness, generosity and good nature make a long, exhausting weekend like this worth every second I put into it. Just to see all enjoying themselves at the show, enjoying the plug demo booth was my reward for all the work that goes into this event. Thank you all for coming. :btu:
It was great meeting all the guys I have never had the pleasure of before, and seeing all who I don't get to see enough of. :wiggle:
Big thanks to Capesams, MAC and Slipknot....you guys are 3 of the best guys around and the work you did today was a joy to watch as all enjoyed your demo. Thank you guys. ;)
Flap...thanks for lunch and lets make a point of getting out fishing as discussed, nothing would be better than two tall capemen in a small boat pitching wood into the rocks. I look forward to that. :kewl:
Tired right now. I look forward to seeing many more of you tomorrow. Glad you all enjoyed the show.
NIB......Thanks! :chased:
mikecc 03-19-2005, 07:46 PM Some real nice stuff ther! M&D's was PACKED upon opening...seems everyone had the same idea....ravage the Habs
We saved a bunch of Habs for Sunday knowing some peolpe could not make it staurday.
ProfessorM 03-19-2005, 08:14 PM Great show. Talked to so many members my throat is sore. Great time. Thanks MSBA. P.M.
Got Stripers 03-19-2005, 08:14 PM What a great place to have the show, bright, roomy and well ventilated; literally a breath of fresh air. It was good to see some of my old friends, some new ones and catch up during the lull this afternoon. I'm crashing early in anticipation of another morning rush, especially with the rain predicted tomorrow.
Tight lines.
StripinLine 03-19-2005, 08:50 PM wanted to make it, had plans to go. but got dispatched to GA
and had to miss it, damn, i hate it when my bosses plans conflict with mine...
:rtfm: :hang:

TheSpecialist 03-19-2005, 09:40 PM Excellent location, big roomy, and well lit. I had a great time.
Mike thanks for the buy on the rod ;)
Ross if you find yourself needing more let me know.
Roy L it was good talking to you, we will have to get together with Tony sometime.
Tynan, and Starfish it was good talking to you today. You guys are great together having fun.
Bart , BigBo , MikeP, and Mrs it was nice meeting you today.
It was nice to meet Tinman, he hassome very nice products, I will be putting in an order soon.
It was good seeing the Usual Suspects, you know who you are....
John nice job on the site, I like the new looks.
Mike P 03-19-2005, 10:09 PM Great show, and even better to finally put some S-B faces with names.
Great to see Roland and squidmama again. We go back a looooong time, way back before Al Gore invented this internet thing.
A couple of my old Canal crew, Bob Rogers from The Fisherman's Line and Don Willis.
Kadir and Surf Pirate, always a pleasure. Of course, with the wife with me, it was necessary to buy two pairs of Aquaskinz gloves :D.
Bob McKay. One of these years I'll get back to the Vineyard.
Last but not least, all of the great S-B.com folks--Chunker of Death, Macojoe, Spec, John, Saltheart and Smokey, PNG and Mike T and the wives and kids, Slip, capesams, milo and Goose, JPowers, Big Fish Larry and a couple of others whose names escape me at the moment.
John, thanks again for the plaque and print, I'm really touched.
Big thanks to Ron Arra, too. I think I'm sleeping on the couch tonite, since Christine plans to cuddle with her new fly rod instead of me :( It's a sweet, beautiful stick.
My apologies to those I've forgotten, as I'm running on fumes at the moment.
Karl F, once again we missed each other.
Every time I see some of Saltheart's rods, and the new additions to Ron's Lamiglas line, my wish list gets bigger.
Great job by the MSBA brass and all the volunteers. First class operation, all the way.
Squid kids Dad 03-19-2005, 10:54 PM I'll be there again on Sunday....Stop by the concession stand and say hi...Met many on Saturday...Great show!!
Raider Ronnie 03-20-2005, 05:31 AM Maybe I'll wear my normal colors (Silver & black) instead of the red club shirt so I can meet some more members here to put some faces with more names that I don't know here!!!
I've been there ALL weekend so far!!! :spin:
I'll be back there early morning or afternoon after we launch my boat and take a ride to to some exploring for COD !!! I'll be happy to break a few noses of dogfish right now!!! :jump:
Great show ,it was well spread out and comfortable in there..Nice seeing some ole faces, and some new ones..Mac slip and cape was a good addition as there were people poppin in all day...again great show and nice seeing you all
surfrod 03-20-2005, 07:20 AM Great Show !!!
Bought a new 9 1/2 ' Breakaway Rod from Mike. NICE ROD.
Best part was I sold 2 of my older rods to my son-in-law.
Talked to Tinman ( NJTackle) about lips. He was very busy, but not too busy
to take the time to explain what different lips do. Thanks Tinman.
The Plug building demo was great. I saw some different ways I can improve
the plugs I am building. Thanks guys.
There are some absolutely awsome custom plugs for sale at the show.
The guys selling them took the time to explain how there plug is
different and better than everyone elses. Of course I think MY Plugs
are the best ones. Some day they might look as good as the show plugs.
And a special thanks to all the guys who put the show on.
If you can make it today, definitely go.
Tight Lines
SurfRod
relentless 03-20-2005, 07:34 AM I did not get to the show until 3:00 PM with everything going on with my own boat. Nice set up with the seminar booths and it was like going to a convention with plenty of friends, I ran into Larry, Sheri, Roland, Patrick, Jules, Bill, Rachel, Skip, Mike and many many more old friends. The dealer tables all were professionally set up and I it was quite impressive. Once again congratulations to the show committee they deserve alot of credit along with all of the volunteers. Have a great day.
Dave

Saltheart 03-20-2005, 10:29 AM I enjoyed the show. The spaciousness of the Bob's store was excellent in that it kept the area cool and comfortable and you never felt crowded since evrything was spread out.
Great to see the guys we see often b8t especially good to see the long distance people like Mike P , Bill B and Ragfly and the special guest appearance by JPowers.
I think its great John has the table there for promoting the site but it functions best as a homebase and meeting area for everyone.
Too all the regulars we see at6 all the functions...it was nice to see you all again. Don't want to take people fro granted just cause we see you often.
Milo and Clammer seemed to have a good time even though Clammer was definitely "one track minding it" the whole morning. You got it bad Clammer!! :)
John seemed busy on the puter. Couldn't figure out what the heck he was doing all that time but he seemed busy!.
Thanks a lot to Slip for helping me help my friend.
All things considered it was a great way to get psyched for the upcoming season.
GREAT SHOW !!!! BEST SHOW EVER !!!! Plenty of room, nice and cool, air to breath, plenty of stuff for everyone. Thank you to the MSBA people. Keep this up and it will become the biggest and best show in New England.....and, probably, harder for you to run but well worth it. :thanks: :claps: :buds: Sorry I missed JP.
Slipknot 03-20-2005, 12:23 PM I had a good time seeing and meeting people yesterday too :btu:
Long day, I can't believe my daughter made it the whole day from 8:30 to 6. She did good shopping though :) I didn't have the time to spend much time shopping myself but I got a few things. It was fun joining Mac and CS in the turning booth. Kudos to MSBA for a great show. And Saltheart , you're very welcome my friend.

fishsmith 03-20-2005, 05:08 PM Fantastic show!! Great job MSBA (the lady's at the door are the ones to fish with, they caught every kid trying to sneak in ).
I went to the presentation on the Elizabeths, I just jotted down some nice notes for my charts. :kewl:
My purchases - a 10ft sealine conventional for $45 (same place had the rod with Red Sox emblem and trophy, very sweet, but it was 5x the sealine) and some cod jigs (3 for $10) from fishguts, these things are cool, a bank sinker with a hook embedded in the mold, see if my blondes of the deep take this offering. And $5 for the msba raffle, did 1731 - 1736 come up???
again Great Job MSBA - Well done.

To all the guys and GALS that helped make the show happen...kudos and nice job!
I gotta single out a few guys though. I seen some chit both days that these guys stood out for....I was near the back door....and the attitudes of some people trying to get through the doors was disgusting. :yak6:
SPECIAL thanks (and some free plugs) went to a few of these guys for standing up to do the job they did.....and all the flak they put up with.

BigFish 03-20-2005, 10:26 PM Thanks again guys...day 2 was tough and I can barely walk now...shin splints and my feet are throbbing like mad. Thank you all again, it was a great success because of all the great MSBA volunteers who were there to help and if you guys are on this site you know who I am talking about. ;) Thank you all.
tynan19 03-20-2005, 10:37 PM Where to start. Thanks to all the MSBA crew for putting together a great show. The Hard work payed off. Glad I got to see some familiar faces and meet many more great people. Way to many to list. Thanks to Clammer for keep Star busy and let me do my thing. Thanks BF for the Howdy.
Flap great presentation I just wish I was around 20 years ago. Although I fish Monomoy regularly from a boat I can't wait to hop in the Surf and try those tactics you showed.
John it was a great idea having the booth. I could have stayed there all day. I think I did.
The Point Jude Bros. great talking to you 2 and any questions send me a PM.
MikeCC thanks again and thank Barbara(sp?) for keeping my wife happy.
All the guys that I met and plan on fishing with I can't wait.

Raider Ronnie 03-21-2005, 03:52 AM I spent most all weekend as a volunteer! My son Raider/dogfish Leo was there 1 day also
I got home around 8:30 pm sun night,
had some dinner, took a shower, then fell asleep watching tv on my couch around 10:pm!
Now, I've been up since 2:00 am and I'm reading treads and posting some replies because I'm so over tired that I can't sleep!!! :err:
I had a GREAT weekend!!! :btu:
I think it's going to be a pretty rough and LONG day at work monday!

reelecstasy 03-21-2005, 08:33 AM I just wanted to say I had a great time this weekend. The volunteers that came are what made the show as great as it was in my opinion. Well, first and foremost, big props to BasicPatrick and Bigfish, these two put in so many hours making the show what it was :claps: and combine that with a great bunch of people from the MSBA that gave up thier weekend to make sure everything went off as best it could. Without the volunteers there would never even have been a show, these people deserve a huge round of applause. :claps: I really thought there would be many more volunteers in attendance, luckily the ones that did volunteer their time really stepped up and made the show what it was, terrific...
.
It was great putting a few more faces with names, insteed of just avatars in my head, lol...
There was just so much to see  between the great seminars and demo's then add on all the tackle :bl: I was in fishin heaven...
Always great to see JohnR, got a chance to meet up with The Specialist, Slipknot, CS, and MAc. Sooo many, got a chance to talk with so many. I wish i had more time. Great meeting Ty19 and Starfish, wish I had more time to spend talking with you two...and no, none of the booty I had in my arms made it to my truck. But I did walk away with some shweet gear for this season...
Sorry if I missed anyone, I know I did, the names are streaming thru my head right now. But, it was great seeing all of you..
Again, big thanks to BasicPatrick and Bigfish, I appreciate all the work that went into making the show what it was, awesome.......
Hope to see some of the S-B crew soon, but, it will be on the rocks.............
Thanks again guys...day 2 was tough and I can barely walk now...shin splints and my feet are throbbing like mad. .
Day 1--mild aching, Day 2--numbing pain, Day 3 totally did me in. By the time I got home, I could hardly get out of the truck. My entire body is sore. My shins are screaming louder than my back.
But still its a small price to pay,,, the aching will pass, but the great time and new faces will stick.
Thanks for all the donations at the JUNIORS RAFFLE TABLE.....The kids, MSBA and I appreciate your support...
Except for the guy who slipped in some nickels instead of quarters for a 1 dollar chance. Can you believe he scammed us for 40 cents.....
tynan19 03-21-2005, 09:08 AM great show! great job by msba crew :kewl: met alot of sb crew- sure is nice to put a face with a name. (mike,png, larry- i'm getting gps in my new truck :bl: }

tynan19 03-21-2005, 12:17 PM [QUOTE=reelecstasy]. Great meeting Ty19 and Starfish, wish I had more time to spend talking with you two...and no, none of the booty I had in my arms made it to my truck. But I did walk away with some shweet gear for this season...

kippy 03-21-2005, 01:20 PM I was at the show Saturday and spent time at the Pt Jude booth talkng with Point Jude Joe and JBuck. Looking forward to throwing the tin soon, thanks guys! :bl:
Surfpirate 03-21-2005, 03:52 PM It’s always worth the trip to spend time with quality people.
The Volunteers who man the MSBA events are second to none.
Patrick and Larry do consistently great job.
It is good to see the S-B.com boss (if your wife finds your new toy and you have to get rid of it fast, let me know!) having fun.
The S-B.com members are some knowledgeable dudes and dudettes! It’s great to put a face to the screen name… although next year you should wear name tags like me!
Ron Arra IMHO is a great ambassador of the sport; I can never spend enough time with him and feed of his enthusiasm for the sport
The Pt. Jude Guys, other than having a great product line (they bumped Hopkins and Charlie Graves out of my bags) are pure class
Next meeting april 1 in RI???
The Dad Fisherman 03-21-2005, 04:13 PM Awesome job on the show, I was there saturday w/ the little guy and we had a blast. It was good to meet a few more people from the site and see some I've met before. The Plug Demos were awesome and I left with a few more tricks to try.
A Big Thanx on a job Well Done
Karl F 03-21-2005, 05:09 PM Long day, I can't believe my daughter made it the whole day from 8:30 to 6.
Bruce, you got that right..... Jenna hung in there like a trooper all day, and wore a big smile most of the time. My comlipments to her :kewl:, and you too Dad ;). Enjoy them while you can Slip, next thing you know, their off and running on their own.
afterhours 03-21-2005, 05:25 PM Bruce, you got that right..... Jenna hung in there like a trooper all day, and wore a big smile most of the time. My comlipments to her :kewl:, and you too Dad ;). Enjoy them while you can Slip, next thing you know, their off and running on their own.
-man you got that right karl. and you're welcome slip, fish it well!
Swimmer 03-21-2005, 07:09 PM Especially Squid Kids Dad and Swimmer. They were all over the place like a bad rash helping out. Oops.
Some people say fishermen are anti-social. Next time I talk to someone I'll ask their opinon, maybe. :hs:
Swimmer 03-21-2005, 07:21 PM For those of you who didn't make it. I was witness to a reel life HABATTACK at M & D's booth. Mike, his wife, and daughter had all they could do to keep up with the Habs request. Of the first forty guys to enter the show 39 went straight for M & D's booth. I thought we were going to have to hire a detail officer for crowd control. Great plugs obviously being sold by a real nice guy.
Mr. Sandman 03-24-2005, 10:29 AM Missed the event this year. :( But I was wondering if that english chap was there who was growing those big sandworms? He was there last year (Had some M O N S T E R worms too) and said his company was opening a plant in Maine. After reading Charley's book I need to find a source for killer sandworms.
Has anybody purchased worms from this outfit?
fishsmith 03-24-2005, 12:41 PM Sandman, pete santini (member here) had them at his booth -worm dealer is Sea Bait-. I think they can be mailed too.
Swimmer 03-26-2005, 11:07 AM Sandman,
I talked with the english fellow and he said his plans were a costly year behind schedule. He had full grown worms and whatever the newbies are called. The young ones were and inch or so long.
