Put together my first batch of bucktail jigs last night. Any advice on anything i should do differently or any killer color schemes would be appreciated. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on these too.

Nice.I love bucktails my favorite lure.Try to tie the flash material on the sides or it gets tangled on the hook. That color yellow head an white bucktail worked great for me last fall. While lots o guys where sacrificing storms to the wallygators.I was doin a number on em wit it an a white porkrind.or a twister tail. The eyes are nice but lots o times i don't even bother paintin them on.The same with the red mouths. The sand grinds it off after a while anyways. It doesn't take to much work wit a dremel to put the next size hook in.Just take ur time an be really carefull.

CHef, those look sweet. a friend of mine takes the un-painted heads and puts them in a vise to flatten teh sides, then uses flat stick-on eyes. He does this so the eyes never fall off.

Ive already painted em all ,ill try that next year.I was gonna try putting a dab of epoxy over the eyes and some on the thread too.

When you tye them, put a drop or two of zap a gap (the stuff in with the pink lable) on the threads after all the bucktail is added and trimmed. Continue wrapping thread on this and it will get the zap deep into the bucktail and threads. Once done, use some head finish or head cement (fly tying stuff) over the threads. Done this way, your tails will last a loooong time.

Your jigs look good. Can't tell if you used powder paint or not. I use a lot of jigs trolling. I've found that ss hooks and baked on powder paint last the longest. Remember the bass ore on the bottom along with the rocks, sand, etc. I also use Charley Soares idea of pork rind made out of craft felt from Wal Mart. They are cheap and you throw them away after use. I dip the end in pogy oil, works great.
