View Full Version : Rag Mop
ProfessorM 03-23-2005, 11:32 AM I am interested if any one has any photo's of the trolling set up called the Rag Mop or mophead. I included a photo I think is one. It is an old school trolling lure. I have heard of them but never seen one in person. I showed Stan Kuzia a jig I have and he told me it would be perfect for that. He explained what it looked like to me but a photo would be worth seeing. I want to make some but need to see a few styles. Any help would be appreciated. Paul

RIROCKHOUND 03-23-2005, 11:47 AM Used to be deadly on Bluefish, just a jig head, toilet chain and bucktail....
mikecc 03-23-2005, 11:58 AM I got a dozen originals in the packages(not for sale) and the ones we make.
Also sell the heads for it at the shop.
Like PNG said if you come buy you will see them.

blue, red, black & yellow
Like Bryan said - they were a killer bluefish trolling lure. Didn't catch many bass on them. Funny - they were over a foot long if I remember correctly - and you still had to attach a 6 inch pork rind on the tail hook for them to be really effective. Kind of like a "tube and worm" for bluefish.

l.i.fish.in.vt 03-23-2005, 12:47 PM those chain jigs were made by Tony Acetta if i am not mistaken they were deadly on the shoreshore of LI and montauck.when i was a kid in the early 60,s my father put quite a few 50's and a few 60's on the boat with those rigs and the plain bucktail that Aceta made.i think the cape cod jigit heads are similar in shape
ProfessorM 03-23-2005, 01:18 PM I think the hair was inserted into each link about 5 or 6 " long centered in the chain and glued in place. Acording to Stan K. you just drag them thru the sand on wire for bass. He says they work great for stripers used that way. I will be in to see those Mike. Chris why don't you treat me mean. LOL. Paul
