View Full Version : The Pope Sure Is A Tough Guy...
fishweewee 04-01-2005, 09:47 AM It takes a tough man to live through Nazi and communist oppression, oversee an empire, and endure chronic illness while remaining a public figure.
84 years old. I should be so lucky to live that long.
I'm not a Catholic, but I will say a prayer for that courageous man.
Flaptail 04-01-2005, 10:08 AM I agree Ben. He was a freedom fighter in the underground during WWII in Poland. Good Polish stock and a good man. If he goes he will be well rewarded. :kewl:
chris L 04-01-2005, 11:18 AM I had an opportunity to guard pope john paul in Wiesbaden Germany in 1980 . I didnt do it cause I was young and bull headed , not like now . Im not young anymore ! Its one of the few regrets I have so far in life .
hes had a good life !
Mike P 04-01-2005, 11:30 AM He'll be regarded as one of the greatest Popes in history and one of the giants on the world stage during the last half of the 20th century. He was seen as such a threat to the forces of tyrrany that Yuri Andropov ordered his assassination.
He is a brilliant man, fluent in almost a dozen languages, author of books, a poet, a man who fought for freedom, a man who led an active life, and now a man who's showing us how a real man faces death. I left the Church years ago, but I admire this Pope and just hope, for the billion Catholics around the world, his successor can measure up to those huge shoes he has to fill.
tynan19 04-01-2005, 11:40 AM He has had a sustained temp of 104. That would be tough for a healthy person to overcome.
fishweewee 04-01-2005, 12:04 PM His condition has worsened.

He had as much and probably far more to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union than Reagan did. And that will only be one of his many legacies....
The Iceman 6 04-01-2005, 02:01 PM I concur, what a phenominal Pope. My wife tells me he just passed....
ChrisH 04-01-2005, 02:07 PM May he rest in peace.....
tynan19 04-01-2005, 02:23 PM God rest his soul.
I can't find out if he passed.
The Dad Fisherman 04-01-2005, 02:29 PM The Vatican is denying reports that the Pope has Passed......so its not known yet
Mike P 04-01-2005, 03:21 PM I doubt he'll live out the day. There are throngs gathered in St Peter's Square now. Apparently his kidneys have failed and it's just a matter of time. I hope they're keeping him pain-free.
MakoMike 04-01-2005, 04:44 PM God Bless Him!
BigFish 04-01-2005, 04:56 PM Truely a great man.....84 years old and all he did in his lifetime....simply amazing. If his time comes may he rest in peace.
