This might belong in the Reports Forum, but how can we track water temperatures in different locations? I recall Sandman had a chart he posted last year. Any reports out there????

via sattelite infrared, bouy data sensors.

wind plays a role when the surface gets warmer. storms will churn up the ocean and make the surface temperatures cool, etc.

Yes, go to the NOAA site. The water temp in Woods Hole has gone up 3 degrees this week from 36 last Friday to 39 yesterday. 11 more and we are in business! :kewl:

most bouy sensors are 1-2 meters below the surface

sun plays a major, just watch it.

cloudy/foggy days ruin the satellite infrared. that is only a surface reading
look at that in July?August and you'll see why Nantucket Shoals holds so many daytime summer bass


the cape wind bouy (horshoe) used to give h20 temp, current direction, etc. now it only gives the basics. there is a bouy a mile south of South Beach MV
it has one of the cool anemometers on it and it gives TWO temps. top and bottom.

Just go to the main page by clicking on StriperTalk message boards in the upper left corner. Then scroll down to you see the 2 reports sections.

At the bottom of this page in the left hand corner there is a box that says forum jump. Just click on the arrow and highlight reports.

that same thingee has got a sealevel bouy that has some cool stuff on it. It's got one of dem anemometers that measures the wind speed by timing the speed of the airs molecules between to posts ! SO BITCHING :rocketem:

some mornings i use it see if there is a swell for surfing.

and you know where I am. thats how similar the two south shores are.
also for night fishing. when I need to no if the sw'er has kicked in or not. rarely do i fish the south shore without a swell

I use a couple of free sites that work pretty well for sea surface temps(SST)

The best is probably marine.rutgers.edu and another is sstcharts.com.

When I go offshore in the late summer and especially late fall, I use ROFFS ocean forecasting and pay the extra for the commercial report. The ROFFS reports correlate all the data from all bouys in the areas you want to fish, as well as pinpoint the exact best locations to start looking based on up to the minute reports from fleet s up and down the eastern seaboard, commercial as well as charter capts and pleasure boats. The site is really worth the money when heading 100 miles plus!

I like this one.... color charts really show the change tracking it for the last week.....

There was a good article in saltwater or florida sportsfisherman about reading the temp breaks for finding big fish. Can't seem to remember which mag, but I did read it in florida.
