UPS brought me a present today, my new Raymarine color digital sonar.

Sunlight viewable full color screen, dual frequency, speed and temp.

Sweet machine. It will also connect with my ray chartplotter and share info.
Should be a nice set-up.

Fish will FEAR me !!!!
I can't wait to install and get on the water.....

Van you should really like the raymarine screen. I have two of them onboard and love both of them. The dsm interface is great!! You can overlay radar over the chartplotter, and its so easy to use.. Visabilty of the screen durning high sunlight situations is a brezze... What is also good about Ray equipment and is a big reson I bought there setup is that they are located right here in Nashua NH. So if I ever had a problem with anything just remove it from the boat and bring it back up to get fixed during the week!! I have been over to there repair facilty and they are all a bunch of nice guys & gals, and from what I can remember it is an employee owned company/ all former Raytheon guys from when they spun the marine divison off. Best of luck with the unit and I hope to fish with ya again this season!! Take Care Capt. Dave :kewl: :kewl:

Remember Ron, true virgins make dull companions at weddings.
red over red means? red white red? ball diamond ball? when all you need to remember is red right return. Good luck.

Dave:
Thats exactly why I got this unit mainly because of viewability. The furuno I just "e-bay'd" was a good machine, but I was always adjusting brite and cont to see it. Meanwhile my Ray plotter right next to it read clear at any sun, shade angle. Top up or down didn't matter.

I've been really pleased with the ray plotter, it did have a small issue with the light going off, sent it to NH and had it back in 2 weeks with upgraded software installed.

So I'm hoping this will give the same reliabililty. From what everyone says here, its gonna work out. Hope to start install this weekend...

HEY RONNIE YOU FEELING BETTER FINALLY.....????????????

Where did you find the best price from? What did you pay if you don't mind telling me? I am looking at the Furuno and the Raymarine. Which Furuno did you have? I am having a tough time deciding. Like the idea of digital. Thanks. Paul

I had the Furuno LS6100. This is a good machine, but I don't recommend it if its sitting on the dash. OK in an overhead or pilot house. (Shaded Location)

The Ray is the A Series DS600X.
I found the best price from defender.com

 Van, Take my word...its a thing of beauty. SAY GOODBYE TO SURFACE CLUTTER AND ANY ADJUSTMENT WHATSOEVER FOREVER. I have had my unit for two seasons now. Wait till you turn it on! If you see a mark...its a fish. You get no junk readings.

Hint: When I had twin engines I had the transducer mounted between the two slightly off the keel. I had solid readings to about 40 knots. When I had a single, I had to move the transducer off to the side. Someone else positioned it too far outboard and I would loose a signal at speeds over 20. I just moved it yesterday, (again) closer to the keel but far enough away from the engine. If I were you I want that as close to the keel as possible.

Catchem' up buddy!

Sandman:

How close is too close to the engine?

I was going to place it right where the old ducer was.

But maybe I should move it closer.

Mr. Sandman

Van,
If the old one worked good in that spot, I would keep it in the same spot. If you lost the signal from time to time while maneuvering or at speeds I would move it deeper and closer to the CL of the boat if you can.
