I was at BJ's today and I was looking at the the LCD monitors - can they be used as a TV? They had a few that had HD quality res - like 1028 X 720 or something like that...

Not as easily as you think. You would need to do a Media PC, or get a special card and some other stuff. Aspect ratios are also different....

BestBuy has a External tuner box that accepts cable tv in and pumps it out to the monitor for $99 but then its just a TV. If you want to use it as a monitor also you will need to buy a switch to flip between the 2 or get a tuner card for your PC.

As mentioned you can do it you just need a special video card...get a good one not a basic tv out video card...looks like crap. They are making some computers now just for HighDef display, it is awesome. They do a lot of things...high end video, surround sound, DVD player/burner, awesome gaming on a big screen, a MONSTER DVR that can basically record more stuff then you can possibly watch among other things you that you have 10 boxes to do now.

I have a buddy who has one of these computers that is dedicated just for his big screen. Wireless keyboard/mouse it is really something. IMO eventually these will be built into the TV itself. I think dell actaully makes one box like this. (if not then it is alian)
