Bob Jr. and I are thinking of building two boats in the spring at Persson Mfg. in Old Saybrook. Anyone had any experience with them?

I can't help with your question but if you are planning on building a boat, check this site out. It is awesome and offers free technical support .

I may build one soon.

Damn, and we used to have an expert too - OK, that was bad. I won't do that again for a while...

Seriously, what's the deal with building those boats? Curious minds want to know....

The deal at Persson is that you can build a boat in 9 days at their facility in Old Saybrook, with all their people and tools around to help, and leave it there while you build it. We're looking at their 16 and 18 foot center console skiffs. The whole cost would be somewhere around $3,000 each.

The decision issue is that they're plywood boats with glass finish.

I like the kits described in SK's site.

Persson's website is
