It sure felt good to catch a fish without driving 550 miles in January to NC for Stripers or flying 3500 miles to Cabo for Striped Marlin.

My Grady White Buddy and I took a run up the CT River in his boat to Hamburger Cove on a cool, windy Thursday afternoon. On the way up we tried the Woodlot and south of the RR bridge with no luck. Once we got into the cove we were into fish on our first cast.

I was using a Quantum Energy PT Ultralite and had a blast. The best lure was a Spro Bucktail with a Berkley Tail on it… both chartuse in color. We lost count but must have landed over 25 fish in 1 hour. Rob was having a blast and at one point when he yelled “Oh Oh …Fish On” I had to ask if he had a 23” or 43” Striper on the other end.

I was on the phone talking to the Yacht Broker in Cape May that I’m getting my new CC from and he said water temps are 3-5 degrees behind last year and the fish are 2-3 weeks behind.

Oh well… Holdovers will work for now…
