View Full Version : Finally Figured A Great Way To Store My Pre-Tied Leaders!
BigFish 04-20-2005, 03:36 PM I was tired of storing my leaders coiled in 3's in small zip lock bags....big pain in the a$$ and leader wallets did not look as if they would meet my needs, so here is my solution! A spool of 50# flouro.....I like my leaders 3' long....25 yards gave me about 23 leaders.....tied them all up, swivels on one end/breakaways on the other and then clip them together and wind them back on the spool. Not all fit, maybe only about 15 but it works great and easy to get them out with no tangles! :kewl:
Backbeach Jake 04-20-2005, 03:41 PM :jump: WHy do these simple solutions always escape me, WHYYyyyyy!?? Nice tip BF, thanks.
BigFish 04-20-2005, 03:48 PM Necessity is the mother of invention....took me all this time to figure that one out Fred! It does work great though! :bl:
Mr. Sandman 04-20-2005, 04:08 PM Send that idea into SW sportsman mag. If they use it in their mag, you get a free shimano Thunnus baitrunner reel..(value about 220 bucks ). They use a lot of stuff that is sent in.
BigFish 04-20-2005, 04:42 PM I was thinking about doing that Sandman. ;)
Fish Or Die 04-20-2005, 05:06 PM cd wallet works really good and cheap! :bl:
Fungus 04-20-2005, 05:40 PM That is a great idea, very practical.
macojoe 04-20-2005, 05:41 PM Great!! Now if you can get all the drag washers done!!
BigFish 04-20-2005, 05:44 PM You been hanging with Big-Bo? CD wallets and leader wallets...same thing, get sand in them. :splat:

Rock Hopper 04-20-2005, 08:15 PM Larry,
How cool an idea that is!! I too use little zip lock bags and hate the tangles when they happen. This is a must do....thanks!

Slingah 04-21-2005, 06:16 AM that is truly a great idea....
kippy 04-21-2005, 06:20 AM Great idea Larry , I've been looking for a new way to store leaders.
Saltheart 04-21-2005, 07:31 AM Good idea. I did the baggie routine for years , it does get unruly. for the last 7 or 8 years i just tie them on the spot. I don't use swivels , etc so just a spool of heavy Ande in my pocket and some pliers in my back pocket gets it done.
Big Vern 04-21-2005, 07:36 AM I'm happy to know that I wasn't alone in the baggie method.
Nice idea Big Fish. Thanks. I also just had a spool of Seagar and some swivels arrive yesterday. Perfect timing.
Problem for me is that the majority of my leaders (70%ish) have either a teaser (fly, redgil, cocahoe...) tied up top, or a 5/0 hook on the bottom for eels. I have yet to find a leader wallet I like.
None the less, I will use your idea for the remaining 30% that are just swivel and clip. THANKS!

RIJIMMY 04-21-2005, 10:03 AM BF, just a question...you use swivels to attach to plugs?
This wouldnt work for me because I tie direct.
BigFish 04-21-2005, 11:08 AM No RIJimmy...plugs attach to breakaway clips...main line to swivel. Take a closer look! :eyes:
thefishingfreak 04-21-2005, 11:21 AM neat idea there larry.
i'm not a fan of swivels or clips, just a good homer rhode loop knot, but still a neat idea.
BigFish 04-21-2005, 12:41 PM You don't fish many plugs probably Mike....swivels to reduce line twist and clips for quick changes are a must as far as I am concerned. :kewl:
