View Full Version : Gil Gliottone
piemma 04-21-2005, 06:18 AM For anyone who knows Gil, one of the old guard in the RI surf, he was seriously injured in a car accident yesterday after apparently suffering a heart attack.
I am not a deeply religious guy but any prayers you can offer would be appreciated.
Gil and I have fished together for better than 20 years and he is a great guy, a great surf fisherman with numerous 50's to his credit and a good friend.

I really hope he pulls though :(
A friend of mine was fishing with Gill one really cold fall day and gill landed a beauty of a bass.. over 40 pounds if I remember the story right. Gill stashed the bass in the dunes and they fished for another hour or 2. When it was time to leave, Gill proudly took his bass down to the wash to get the sand off and as soon as the bass hit the water ZING!!!!...... it came back to life and swam off leaving Gill fishless :D
I love that story :laughs:
snake slinger 04-22-2005, 04:28 AM get well gill
STRIPER77 04-22-2005, 05:03 AM piemma........Prayers said for your friend
piemma 04-22-2005, 06:01 AM Eben, that is a true story. Happened about 5 years ago at Deep Hole. I had just left Gil. He had a 40 and a 35. When he was washing off the 40 it woke up and swam away.
He is still alive, as of last night. he did suffer a cerebral hemmorage. They were doing brain scans last night but I don't know anything further. I'll post as soon as I have news. Thanks to everyone for their prayers. That's what makes this site the best. One big family.
cheferson 04-22-2005, 08:09 AM I hope he has a quick recovery and is back at deep hole soon catching and releasing 40's. Thats a great story
I've spoken with him on the beach a bunch of times over the years - there's an old-guard Naragansett fisherman who really knows his stuff. Best wishes...
piemma 04-24-2005, 05:31 AM Brain scans have shown that Gil is brain dead. The family has not made the final move as they are waiting for a granson (in the Air Force) enroute from Iraq. I believe he arrives today. They would like him to say his goodbys to his grandfather.
For those of you who would like to pay last respects, I will post when I know the details.
ejk002 04-24-2005, 06:25 AM I am sorry to hear the sad news, being fairly new to the fishing community here in RI I do not know him but we will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
I lost my dad in October (age 55) he was young and I know it is very tough thing to go through no matter what the age or circumstances.
Tight Lines Forever
afterhours 04-24-2005, 06:46 AM sad news, may he go to the land of large, there are lots of our loved ones there waiting to greet him.
piemma 04-26-2005, 12:37 PM Thanks to everyone for their prayers for Gil. He passed on last night. Arrangements are incomplete.
Those of you who knew him will always remember him as one of the great stripermen of our time. he fished with Jerry S, Hal, Frank Woolner and a lot of just regular Striper men. he was a regular guy who forgot more about catching 50s than most of us will ever learn.
Fisherwoman 04-26-2005, 03:44 PM Piemma, So sorry to hear the sad news but hopefully now he will be at rest in a much better place. Our Prayers go out to you and his family.
Bill & Jules
