So monday morning I get a call at around 7:30... My dad asking me if I wanted the 3d archery target of a whitetail that I had in their yard. I said yes why?... Well, it's in the back yard in a bunch of pieces.... Turns out a black bear came and mauled the %$%$%$%$e out of it.... my dad got picts. just gotta figure out how to post them without going through my ftp.. You can see claw marks and teeth marks.... Pretty insane. Keep in mind this is made out of heavy duty foam... Very very tough stuff.

(fyi, they live in simsbury, northwest of hartford)

That is a pretty big jaw. Those bite marks are pretty wide.

Ben,
your bow could definately take down a bear. Bart, black bears are generally very passive and are foragers... Trying to figure out what provoked him to attack the target... my theories are
1. a mother with cubs
2. a male stumbled upon it at night and got spooked so he decided to kick the snot out of it....
3. he was trying to make sweet love to it after hybernating all winter.

i almost forgot about this..

a coupla years ago my godfather's neighbors who live in cumberland RI had a rabbit hutch torn to chit. there was blood on the ground and obviously the rabbits were missing. if you've seen a rabbit hutch or cage, there is usually an escape area for the rabbit to crawl up into. they didn't think it was a coyote because the animal would've had to reach up into the escape area and pull the rabbit out. the next day my grandfather looked out into his backyard( a long field) and saw two big black "things" walking along. so maybe black bears are are more carnivorous than once thought?

Man thats gotta hurt. 60lb bow? Yup, sure as hell will bring it to its knees. Was this decoy stuffed with honey-glazed donuts by any chance? Also were you able to track this beast? Chances are it was probably looking for trash to rummage through and saw an opportunity. To bad no pictures of bear doing the deed. Actually, after further reviewing the photos here, is that a bird feeder near by? Thats the culprit! Bear figured he'd just had enough of that dumb deer just standing around and pulverized it while eating from the feeder.
