does anyone bother to go for schoolies on freshwater gear while waiting for the big boys to come in?
nothing like fighting a 20-inch bass on 8 pound test!

I was trout fishing on Thursday and Friday I had too many shorts to count on the same rod. I prefer using braid though, so I had 20lb power pro on.

Hell yea, but I go up to 14/6 Fireline to keep the jigheads and Superflukes loss to a minimum where I fish. Rocky w/current :kewl: Started out with a 6' med but went to a 7' cause there were a couple keepers that put the 6' to a hairy test. I would like to try a 9ft noodle rod sometime with 6# for S&G's but get worried that with the prolonged fight, the rats would get lactic megadose and risk not making snapping out of it.

Noodle/salmon rod will do it no problem. They're made for salmon.... Fights aren't that long....

I second the noodle rod. I've taken Salmon to 33 lbs on mine in running water-schoolies are no prob. Let the rod do all the work and you'll be able to get the fish in in no time. Have even gotten Bonito on the noodle-took a little longer though.
