View Full Version : Any Idea How To Get All These Damn Credit Card Companies From Calling?
BigFish 04-28-2005, 06:48 PM They call day after day...phone starts ringing right after 5:00...same time literally every friggin night! For like 3 weeks straight, every night, same damn time...American Express calling to inquire about one damn thing or another.....finally I picked the phone up and blasted them!!! :call: "Do you have to keep calling over and over, night after night for cryin' out loud?" I asked! What the "F"! :rollem: So they stopped! Now last night...another friggin strange number....tonight they called 3 F-in times so on the 3rd call I picked it up and then hung up on them!!! Then about 15 minutes later hey call again.... I pick it up and really blast the bastards!!!! :rocketem: There must be some law against them calling over and over and over!!!!! Any bright ideas?
Mike P 04-28-2005, 06:56 PM Yup---get yourself on the national "do not call" registry.
BigFish 04-28-2005, 06:59 PM Yeah...and that costs how much??? :rocketem:
Redsoxticket 04-28-2005, 06:59 PM Get a air horn and blast their ears off.
BigFish 04-28-2005, 07:01 PM That one I like! :laugha:
fishaholic18 04-28-2005, 07:05 PM BF, try this...
https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx
I did it and haven't gotten a call since.
UserRemoved1 04-28-2005, 07:12 PM do not call list is an absolute waste of time. I've submitted the forms on about 10 of them now and not a single thing is done. MA state atty general even had the balls to send me a form letter acknowledging the problem with the company but not enough people complain so they won't do anything. WHAT good is a law if they won't enforce it.

About 30 seconds of your time, and a click on an e-mailed link they send you to confirm that it's really you asking.
Or, you could do what I did before, since wasting their time for 2 minutes means 3-4 fewer calls. Get them talking, put the phone down and let them keep talking, and if you have a cordless, walk into the bathroom, put it close to the bowl, flush and then hang up :D

It worked for me...
Haven't gotten one since...and I used to get a lot. Worth a shot.
Salty, don't you ever have anything positive to say about anything?... :rotf3: :rotf3: :rotf3: :rotf3:
Lighten up dude....
Raider Ronnie 04-28-2005, 09:00 PM I used to have this problem all the time,( one HUGE down side of having excellent credit!!! )
and trust me,
if it was a female on the other end of the phone, I would say some very nasty things to her that could probably have me locked up in jail!!! :laugha:
I called my phone company (Verizon) and they changed my plan that stops them, and I NEVER get them now !!! but I pay for it!!! $$$
jklett 04-28-2005, 09:10 PM A problem with the do not call list is that any company that you currently do buisiness with can call you. I have been on the list for a while and I constantly get calls from companies "representing" the credit card companies that I owe too much to get rid of. That and non-profits and political orgs don't fall under the laws. In fact, the only calls it stopped were the vinyl siding guys that never believed me about living in an apartment and only called once a month anyways. Credit card companies are all evil and once you deal with one, you're sucked into the mess forever.
Raider Ronnie 04-28-2005, 09:27 PM here is a solution.
Become a total deadbeat and stop paying you're bills, declare bankrupt, let them foreclose of youre house ect..... :rotf3:
BigFish 04-28-2005, 10:36 PM Thats just it Ron...they are not calling because we owe them money....they want to extend more credit to us! :rollem: Can you believe that? If we were dead-beats they would be calling us less than they do now!!! :whackin:
ThrowingTimber 04-29-2005, 12:40 AM Decline the credit extension and instead since youre a member in good standing ask that they lower your interest rate, let them know that you've been rate shopping. If they wont budge, ask them not to contact you, unless your account is being used incorrectly. Best of luck.
Raven 04-29-2005, 04:33 AM you have to fart.... :rotf3:
change your phone number for thirty bucks............
take the phone apart and put a silent mode switch in there...
record the modem sound (squelching) and play that back to them
so they think they have a fax number
disconnect your phone except when you really need it
download the use over the net phone dialer app.
it can screen your calls and auto hang up for specific numbers
Slingah 04-29-2005, 05:12 AM I did the do not call and it worked
plus when they start talking I just say I am not interested and please remove me from your list
Karl F 04-29-2005, 06:55 AM Buddy of mine tells them great!, Sign me up. The car just got repoed, and I'm 3 months behind on the Mortgage, I could use a new card.... funny... THEY hang up... and don't call back!
I did the do not call, and it worked fa me.
The Dad Fisherman 04-29-2005, 07:20 AM I did the do not call and its been working for me too.
Another thing you could try is to get rid of your standard phones and go to just cell phones, right now they're pretty clean as far as telemarketing calls, but no telling how long that will last.
PaulS 04-29-2005, 07:20 AM Since most of the calls are from automatic dialers, you can hear the phone call switching over to a person from the dialer - the tone changes. Hang up b/f the person speaks.
outfished 04-29-2005, 10:21 AM Do not call works great for me, hardly anything gets through. If it does, I tell them I already have one and love it, thank-you...click!
Cod Hunter 04-29-2005, 11:10 AM Do not call list works. Sign up!
UserRemoved1 04-29-2005, 05:31 PM We have only had this number since last August when we moved, and it's probably on the lists as someone else still.....but I still get 15-20 calls a week, some days it's more.
I've invested some serious time in one particular place, Mass Exteriors in Lowell...I've reported them numerous times, and the atty general says no-one else complains...but I look on the internet and see lotsa people complaining about them...they don't seem to care. I can get 1-2 calls a day from these guys.
