Well it was a success, thanks to all who participated and learned about lure making today. Got Stripers pours some really magical baits somewhere among those toxic fumes, good job GS. Saltheart and Smokey and canalrat make some great jigs as well.
And Fishpart really cranks on his lathe. I think John found another addiction, not that he has time for another ;)
Bassmaster as usual was being creative. And Jeffsod got a chance to turn some stuff too. Jeff, if you ever lose the use of that lathe your welcome to turn some wood over here sometime:)
It was a pleasure to see and touch mr.pogies' lures and talk about his creations.
And Krispy, your originality really shows in your plugs, nice job.

Ed, Slip's right it's called envirotex. I've only been able to find boxes that say envirotex lite,I don't think there is any difference. Buy the smallest amount you can. I buy the 4 fl. oz. kit for approx. $4.99 and it will do 20 -25 plugs. Any questions feel free to ask. Good Luck ...mrpogie

Thank you Mr & Mrs Slipknot, I had a great time. Thanks to Saltheart for showing me how to tie a jig. Thanks to GS for the plastics. THanks to John, without his board I probably would never have met all of you. Thanks to Slip and John for talking me into trying to turn a plug, and BM for helping me shape, load, and drill it. THanks to Habs for supplying the kits, we will get together to hunt next year. Oh, and I somehow lost your card, if you would be so kind as to pm me or email me the info. It was a pleasure to meet anyone I never met before. I hope the spring will hurry up and get here! Later on.

That is a sweet finish on those plugs and it's not just for show, they can stand up to a lot of abuse that way too... Mr Pogie, where can the average Joe buy that stuff? Or is it mail order?

John you can get it at any hardware store Home Depot, True Value, etc. I buy the 4 fl. oz. kit kit for approx. $5.00 and it will do 20 to 25 plugs. The box will probably say Envirotex Lite, rather than just Envirotex, the last couple of boxes have said that I haven't noticed any difference. ...mrpogie

I'll get back to you as soon as I hear back on the plastic, molds etc, trying to strike a deal. You primarily interested in the 9-10 inch (lurecraft calls it a 10 inch I notice?, never put a tape to it) sluggo, the flat bait or anything else? If I off up the baits, I'll probably post the pricing on my Fishing Page, since I don't think it would be fair to the paying advertisers on this site. I know I couldn't even do that on SOL, Tim would have my balls.

Anyone that's interested, pop me an email with what you'd be looking for, thanks.

GS just post a link here when you've got it up on your page or you can PM them (all but BM 'cause he never cleans out the inbox)...

For those that may question how lethal GS's baits are, hehehe, DON'T ;)

For anyone who wants to learn a little more about turning here is a source for books and videos.

www.taunton.com

go to the store and choose turning............

I have the video Turning Wood with Richard Raffan. It shows the basiscs of how to use the tools to cut rather than scrape. I find I can remove much more wood and get a better finish right off the tool now I have studied how a pro does it.

JohnR

Well, I don't think that anyone that saw you on Saturday would have any question on how much wood you can remove. Even with BM turning that Telephone Pole down to a 2OZ split-personality diving swimter, he didn't snow the floor with sawdust like you did with that Polaris (or is that an infringement on Gibbs?)

Hey, seeing that I'm going to buying some tools to finish my basement, do you know of a good source for good used woodbreaking tools?

...JCXX ....FUN is not the word !!! :D

..I didn't check, but I think someone in here compared it to a fishing seminar or something... I've been to quite a few of those...and by far the .."Slip~together"... blew the doors off em' !!!...and I left early!! ...I can't imagine if I had gotten the chance to '' turn '' some wood...as there were many lathes available...and tutors to hold your hand...

..all I can say is..... GREAT BUNCH OF GUYS !!!

JohnR

JCX - it was that much fun and interesting, between the awards ceremony (BM), the flesh drilling contest (BM), the computer heist (BM), the plug heist (just about everybody BUT BM) and sniffin' glue (BM - just kidding ;p ).

There was a huge amount of knowledge going back and forth, people trading ideas, or just plain old experimentation. There were 4 lathes plus all of Slip's woodworking tools. The effort that Mrs. Slip put into making it all work. It was just an incredible time. It's hard to believe that I was only there for 4 1/2 hours as it felt a lot longer than that but in a good way...
