View Full Version : Junk yard advice
cheferson 05-09-2005, 12:03 PM Anyone got any advice on salvaging the most money possible outta my broken down truck? It has deer damage to the front right corner, and needs transmission work( transfer case/chain). I just dropped $400+ on tires alone 3 months ago. Called one junk yard and he said probally $50-100 :crying: :wall: . Still owe my parents a couple grand for it is the best part  .
you can probably sell the tires on ebay. They are not that hard to ship.
ThrowingTimber 05-09-2005, 01:05 PM How many miles on that thing? Is it a 4x4?
cheferson 05-09-2005, 01:20 PM 126, 000 miles, 4x4 that doesnt work, anti-lock breaks broke, engine light on and deer damage to front right :hihi:

MakoMike 05-09-2005, 02:02 PM Sell the tires separately, either e-bay, local want ads, or various discussion boards.
Vectorfisher 05-09-2005, 07:42 PM Tires??? Brand?? Size??
cheferson 05-09-2005, 09:05 PM 96 chevy s-10 4x4 v-6 , 4.3, got the tires at bennys, paid $400+
Bill L 05-09-2005, 09:14 PM Chef, buy anther chevy, you can put it up on blocks in the yard and pick at it for parts as you need them. Makes good shade for the dogs in the summer too :tooth:
Raider Ronnie 05-09-2005, 09:44 PM To be honest, $50 - $100 is a good amount to be PAID for a junk car or truck, because the price of scrap iron is WAY up now!!!
A few years ago, you would have had to pay $50 - $100 to have a junk yard take the truck!!!
cheferson 05-09-2005, 10:10 PM Anyone wanna buy some tires?
fishaholic18 05-10-2005, 09:52 AM Cheferson, empty your pm's.
Are they telling you that it needs a t-case or a tranny too??
cheferson 05-10-2005, 10:13 AM emptied pms. He said i needed a rebuilt transmission(whole unit) , called tatco, said $1800 + tax and fluids so 2K. Cant get it fixed till friday the 20th either. Could i just bypass the transfer case and have 2 wheel drive?

Not without major modifications...You need 2wd tranny,shaft,maybe mounts..etc..
cheferson 05-10-2005, 10:51 AM Is it worth putting 2K into it for a new trans with it having 120,000 miles?

Average retail Blue Book value is $4800.00.
Since it has a few other problems and body damage it is worth alot less than that, so $2000 is a lot to dump into it...IMO
cheferson 05-10-2005, 11:13 AM Let me put it another way, is it worth putting 2K into , when i still owe my folks 4K for it,just spent $400+ on tires and my other options are buying a clunker for under a $1000(which may break down and need more $$$$)??? The mechanic was gonna buy it of me for more then the junk yard and fix it himself if i was gonna get rid of it, but still only offered me a few hundred. My other options are beetles ride or a subaru station wagon from one of the other members here. Worst part is i have today off and i know where i can get my first keeper today(saw 2 nice fish come out yesterdayteen-low 20's), but i cant get out there unless i fanagle my roomamtes car again.
cheferson 05-10-2005, 12:27 PM Finagled the car, 1st keeper of the year is coming today :nailem:
