I took a rouge wave in the chest tonight - the wave was cresting perfectly, so when it hit me it was just collapsing and it felt like someone threw a 100 pound sack of potatoes at me- I got thrown back and went under, only to have my plugbag get wedged under a rock or something- I didnt realize this and couldnt get up. As each wave came along i had to hold my breath as my plugbag was holding me down and i was totally submerged. Finally after the 5th wave i realized what was going on and scooted forward to 'unwedge' my bag from the rock. They say you can drown in under a foot of water, and believe me, its true. Thinking back on this, if I hadnt held my breath and hyperventilated like someone about to die, i probably would have :(

I say thank you aquaskinz because if I was not wearing my evoII my waders would have filled up like a waterballon.

Good to see your ok. The best thing you did was staying calm and thinking through your situation. For this reason alone Im thinking of a wetsuit instead of waders.

Glad you are fine Eben...as I do not have an Eben darter yet! :hihi: Seriously glad you are fine! I need to get me a Skinz top soon, also I was thinking along the same lines as Striperhound......does anyone else out there use wet suits as opposed to waders? I know alot of you New Yawkers down along Montauk do. Could you give us some insight on pros and cons, cost etc.? What do you wear on your feet? I was thinking wetsuit, neoprene booties with wading boots?

Glad you are ok!!!

Have any of you ever thought about cutting the strap on your plug bags or what ever you carry and sew Velcro on it?? This way you could just rip it off in a situation like this.

Any good kayak top would have done the same. I got cheaper bags with velcro closures too. Glad you didn't get dead though that would have sucked besides I don't have an Eben plug yet. Until that you can't croak. :faga:

Geeze Eben, If you were under for 5-6 waves and they had a 10 second interval, then you were under for way too long. It's one thing to hold your breath for time on purpose, way another to get surprised like that. Good thing you're a Glass Blower. Your occupation may have saved your life. :eek5:

na.. they were only about 3 feet. i was up to my waist and the crest hit me in the chest... had the wave been a roller and not a cresting wave i woudl have simply jumped up and rode it out.

Good going on your part and I am very happy to hear you didn't get hurt at best...and let's not even think about the worst scenerio....

The "skinz" tops have saved a number of a$$'s so far and as for the bags, what can you say....there is a difference.

We will be holding auditions at an underwater theater :lurk:in the coming months :hihi: We are seeking people capable of holding their breath for extended periods of time :pop: , capable of taking a pummeling by waves, people who don't mind getting abused by hard, sharp rocks and people who sacrifice life and limb to catch fish. :tooth:

The few, the crazy the surf fisherman on rocks....are you one of them? We have been waiting for you :hihi: :claps:

Eben its good your OK. Its cool you share the bad as well as the good. Remember lads that when facing in a southerly direction the northerly winds at your back can pick up those waves in you face quite a bit. I guess that it pretty much got through the breakwater uninterupted as well. I like the knife and velcro suggestions.

Kadir I am your man... i got the lungs of an opera singer :D

springtides, i alway have a sheathed knife right on my surfbelt. Had things gotten really crazy i would have cut the strap on my bag..
