View Full Version : Boat stuff buying advice:
likwid 06-07-2005, 03:03 PM Get a Defender catalogue they're free. www.defender.com
Carry it with you into West Marine/BoatUS
Save a few bucks.
They WILL match the prices. :)
RIROCKHOUND 06-07-2005, 03:04 PM Or call defender and order it...
likwid 06-07-2005, 03:10 PM then you have to wait for it/pay shipping. :(
RIROCKHOUND 06-07-2005, 03:12 PM They are damn fast though, good turn around time and the cheaper price usually offsets the shipping; I have port supply at west BTW and use it often, but the lil woman's dad works at Defender, so I need to plug it when possible...
likwid 06-07-2005, 03:13 PM no advertising! ;)
yeah defender = good
yes defender is good.
The best is their big warehouse sale in the spring. I got some insane deals there this year.

Been using them for a few years, best prices on marine electronics
I could find.
Homerun04 06-07-2005, 07:38 PM just ordered the catelog....thanks for the heads up...
beamie 06-07-2005, 11:35 PM I have been using Defender for years.
However, get this. A few years back on a rainy day I took a ride to the cape to buy a rule washdown pump for the boat. Called ahead of time to see they had in stock and would match competitiors price. Well, I brought the Defender catalog in and the price was like $119 to Wests $179. The store manager was sh*tting, called denfender to ask. The deal was good. but the bastage charged me the would be freight from NY to my house. I still saved $40 bucks.
Hamilton Marine in Maine is great too. Lately I have been using them.
angler management 06-08-2005, 01:49 PM Thanks
I love Catalogs!
Helps drive my wife nuts :rtfm: I need this and this and this and this

I would have said if that was the case, he should wave the sales tax that I wouldn't have to pay ordering out of state...
West Marine is the biggest ripoff going. However I spend hundreds of dollars there because it is very convenient for me.

Go to the boat shows for electronics.
They'll undercut any catalogue price you can find just so they don't have to drag the crap home with them.
Mr. Sandman 06-08-2005, 02:34 PM I am going to have to try this...Defender has very good prices on most things. The difference on 600' of line is huge compared to what they get locally. THe west guys said he would match prices. We'll see.
slapshot 06-08-2005, 02:55 PM West Marine's prices are way too high. Boaters World is cheaper, but Defender is only 10 minuts from where I keep my boat! :hihi:
MakoMike 06-08-2005, 03:16 PM Don't just get the defender catalog, also get Hamilton marine's catalog, they are often cheaper than defender and West Marine will match their prices as well.
