View Full Version : Forgive me father, for I have sinned.
I get down to my favorite spot in gansett tonight around dusk- There are some guys there chunking away twanging bloofish. I go up and ask hows things and they say 'horrible, we've been here since 3 and we keep getting bloofish" I say, "oh, you didnt know???? the bass have moved north, all we have down here is bloofish till fall". The guys say "screw it, we're outa here..hey, you want the rest of our bait???" I look down and there is a pile of 10 or 15 big mackeral.. I say sure, but you take the trash with you- So then I cut 3/4's of it all up into super tiney pieces and start chumming the rip after they leave. I chum... chum... chum...then i throw out a big chunk....
I'm keeping the rest of the story to myself, but lets just say i feel naughty, dirty, and very very guilty... not only for pulling the Jedi mind trick, but for the whoopin i put on many many bass up to.... oh never mind, i dont want to make anyone jealous :hihi:
The best part of the night was that I brought my new abu 6500CS with me to try out... thanks maddog2020 :humpty: It was the perfect reel for doing what i was doing.... freespooling until the pickup :hee:

Did you say "These aren't the fish you're looking for..." and move your hand across your body?
You will leave this place and your bait- oh and give me a plug.... :chased:
fishaholic18 06-16-2005, 10:43 PM i dont want to make anyone jealous :hihi:

Rob Rockcrawler 06-17-2005, 12:39 AM When i read the title of the post i thought Eben was back to boat fishing.

too funny. :hihi:
Fishpart 06-17-2005, 07:58 AM My son, this is indeed a terrible thing you have done to these poor gentlemen........It is a good thing that you have confessed your sin, for your penance you should continue to fish regularly and SEND FISHPART ONE DARTER.......
Mike P 06-17-2005, 08:02 AM What are you askin' for absolution for--snookering the pilgrims or using chunks? ;)
Jamie M 06-17-2005, 08:17 AM Congratulations Eben! You were in a situation where you had the opportunity to help out a couple of guys and make them more knowledgeable fishermen. Instead, you lied to them, conned them out of their bait, and reaped the benefits. Is that what fishing is to you - a source of paranoid competition?
I bet at some point during your fishing career, someone helped you out. Maybe they took you to a productive spot, maybe they improved your technique. But you idn't learn ALL OF IT on your own. And this, as I see it, was an opportunity for you to give something back. And you blew it.
Your posts consistently indicate a selfish paranoia. If someone posts that they caught a fish "somewhere in the northern hemisphere", you get all bent out of shape about spot-burning. I have news for you - you don't own the ocean, and those guys you conned last night had just as much right to fish there as you - more of a right, in fact, since they got there first. You seem to have some sense of entitlement, you think no one else has the right to fish in "your" productive spots. I just don't understand that. Others have helped me, and I enjoy helping out when I can.
The next time someone screws you, I hope you remember what you did to those guys, and accept that you had it coming.
Signing off for good.
Jamie M
jsullivan 06-17-2005, 08:24 AM Jamie ...

I'm fine, thanks. I'm not the selfish one who needs to take a deep look in the mirroe.
I'm not looking for a fishing coach. But I don't expect anyone to deliberately go out of their way to lie and sabotoge my night, either.
Why couldn't Eben have just gone to another spot? Every time a newbie like me asks for advive, you old-timers always say "hey, go learn on your own, learning new spots and trying them out is part of the fun". So why didn't he do that? He had to lie to them to get rid of them? That doesn't seem indicative of the work ethic you experts are always bragging about.
redlite 06-17-2005, 08:58 AM I've done worse. :devil2:
spence 06-17-2005, 09:01 AM I wouldn't get that worked up about it Jamie. Eben is a notorious story teller and has delusions of being Dr. Evil.
Chances are this was really just about a seagull on his favorite rock he had to scare away with a funky dance move. The part about him catching fish was a dead give away :hihi:

Jamie M 06-17-2005, 09:02 AM jsullivan -
Sorry, I just saw the bottom of your post.
Yes, big fish do eat little fish. But, some scientists actually believe that human beings and fish are, in fact, different. At least, the ones that I'm lucky enough to know are different, and wouldn't want to catch a fish at the expense of anyone else's enjoyment.
Hey jamie-
if i come across like that well sorry. every post you throw out always sounds like nobody gives you the keys to the castle.... I learned what i know about bass fishing the old fashioned way... i earned it. Guys like you crack me up, trollling these boards for spots, or any info that they can use to better your game.. When guys tell you to shut up and get out there and teach yourself how to fish they are really doing you a favor...... when i am old and ready to hang up the rods, then i will share my secrets.. Until then, i will continue to put a whooopin on any bass i damn well please.
Sounds like you need a keeper dude..
eelman 06-17-2005, 09:24 AM Some of what was said here is true from both perspectives, When I started I was as bad as anyone else at snookering people. After a talk with my brother in law on the subject he said some things that made sense, I think when we post pictures, brag about our catch etc.. It has the reverse reaction we want, people end up hating you! So for the past couple of weeks I have not posted much about what I am catching, Its better sometimes to just stay quiet because along with the praise for catching fish eventually, people are going to want to know the where and when and how, its only natural, and then like john said, we can't complain when people dig as deep as they can to find out. I am not saying never post this stuff, we are all proud sometimes of our catch and its great to share it but, doing it constantly only enflames the masses.
For every post on here that shows a good fish or a great night, there are countless others you never hear about doing the same thing, quietly!
If you read this weeks fisherman you saw Steves report where he said it was getting out of control at a local spot well, whos fault is that? I told him you can't put these reports in the fisherman along with spots and not expect people to find out! He is a classic example of being a victim of his own success and I think now that its to little to late, damage is done. But what little we have left, I think will be keeped quiet from now on. So, what did he gain by telling the world? He lost his spot. is that the price you pay for a pat on the back?? Think about that. I used to do exacly the same thing and began doing it this year but put the brakes on fast! I dont care anymore wheather or not anyone here or anywhere else knows that I am catching fish or not.
I was fairly friendly with Tim Coleman and fished with him on more than one occasion, now, he hardly speaks to me? the reason is that When I caught my 50 I opened my big mouth and he still holds it against me that the spot has become so heavily fished, I regret it all the time.
Now as for what happend last night, I have been in that situation and, can honestly say lately that while I wont offer to take someone with me I have, this year, run into new people at spots I have fished for many years, I tell them I am surprised there are so many new faces and grumble at them some, I go on about to many cars etc... But then on the other hand after the rant I open up and tell them when and how, Its even worse if they see me hook up? They know anyway. I think for the most part I am a friendly guy when I bump into people at night but, I am also guarded I mean I dont know this guy from atom? So I talk for awhile and feel things out if I like the person I talk, If they are cocky know it alls or punk kids I shut up or walk away.
As far as telling them "everything" Nope I dont do that but I will give a starting point, I am under no obligation whatsoever to spill my guts to strangers about what I have learned over the years, If you give them a little and a starting point they should be able to figure some things out on there own, Casting to a new rock pile and hooking a bass is a great feeling of acomplishment and all the more sweet when you did it on your own.
I know how eban comes accross here but I have met him and I think he is a good guy, I will also take the liberty of saying that this post is most likely a little exagerated, From the talks I have had with eban he is always willing to share his info so maybe, just maybe, the post was half true and a sprinkle of humor added in, or maybe the guys out there were victims of there own stupidity, I would never leave a spot if someone told me to? second, its there own fault!!! for :walk: away.
So maybe we should all be carefull that this board does not become the "BRAGGING BOARD" Cause it looks like its heading that way to me...........
jsullivan 06-17-2005, 09:28 AM Why couldn't Eben have just gone to another spot?
take some time and read this GENTELMAN spends some serious time at the waters edge. we fish where we fish for a reason
I sometimes show up at a spot a fer hrs before what I know will be primetime and find people there, "hey hows it goin ?" they say slow and I know it will heat up soon. should I tell them to stay ?
P.S. I thought it was a funny story
Steve K 06-17-2005, 09:29 AM Well said #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&.
fishaholic18 06-17-2005, 09:35 AM Nicely said Bill, it's just too bad it has to be that way... :hs:
It is nice to be able to post pix, I like to see other guys pix of large. It doesn't make me jelous or pissed, it makes me drive harder to get large myself.
It's just too bad there is so much hate and jelousy in the world. We should be happy for others fortune...
good post #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& :D
actually, my story is completely bogus.... I got skunked agian.... in westerly ;)
eelman 06-17-2005, 09:45 AM Thats the nature of the beast Dave, Sad but true, success in every form of life makes someone somewhere jealous, in fishing its the worst. I have had my nights so thankfully it does not get to me if I have a bad night and trust me everyone has bad nights, everyone. So if I meet someone on the beach who is friendly and pleasent I will tell them most anything I am just not going to hold someones hand.
I am struggling lately because I no longer have my partner Joe to fish with, We kept each other going and now I have to push myself to fish for more than two hours its tough, so Know i realize how goos it is to have a partner, Lately when I am fishing I find that I am talking to myself....My point is that now when I run into someone I am kind of happy to stand there and shoot the Sh$$T for a while I like the company.
When I first bumped into eban he told me he did not want to crowd me and would move down to the next point ( which I respect by the way) My reaction was no, come over here plenty of room :bl2: I enjopyed the company, is my point.
I sometimes wonder if there will ever be another Joe, I miss that .

Canalman 06-17-2005, 10:20 AM I think #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& has summed it up pretty well here and done so in a very diplomatic way. I have learned my lesson and I know Fishaholic18 has too. We had a few good nights this week, we caught more big fish than I have ever taken from the surf in one night. We posted a few of the many pics we took, and poor Dave has been feeling the heat ever since. So as for giving someone a starting point, why don't you start where we did when we found the spot we are fishing.... spend some time scouting, without the rod, find your holes and those little places where the currents makes up a little more than any other place on the beach. We worked hard and put our time in to find these spots, and it has paid off. I won't be posting pics anymore, I'm just as happy to look at everyone else's :). I love to fish, I love to fish with new people, I love to help people out, but it really goes up my @$$ sideways when people relentlessly badger you for having a good night.
Mike and Paul - This was not directed at you guys in any way just so you don't get the wrong idea :).
Hopefully we'll be hearing that drag sing again tonight
fishweewee 06-17-2005, 10:27 AM when i am old and ready to hang up the rods, then i will share my secrets...
Hey you old infirm geezer - I'm all ears. :bshake:
reelecstasy 06-17-2005, 10:28 AM Hopefully we'll be hearing that drag sing again tonight
Where ? :tooth:
I for one, love seeing pics of large, I am happy for them because i know how great it feels and most of the time how hard they had to work to find them...
The Dad Fisherman 06-17-2005, 10:40 AM I like seeing the Pics of large also..... Keeps the juices flowin. I never look at a pic and say anything but Wow, Nice fish. Its nice to see people doing well out there.
eelman 06-17-2005, 10:50 AM Since this has all turned into a lovefest, I think that cnalman and dave should invite me along tonight   :rotf3: :rotf3:
Just kiddin guys good luck guys

Classic....just classic.....I can see Eben right now wiggling those hips to "Staying Alive"....... :jump:
SBASS1 06-17-2005, 11:02 AM "When I caught my 50 I opened my big mouth and he still holds it against me that the spot has become so heavily fished, I regret it all the time."
AS IF HE SHOULD HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ON THE SUBJECT!!!
Notaro 06-17-2005, 11:03 AM I like to see people with some pictures of their catches and their stories, but nothing specific. I find it amusing to hear about their adventures. Besides, those cow pictures keep me going.
partsjay 06-17-2005, 11:09 AM I agree....I love to look at pics as well...and I will admit getting jealous of seeing people catching nice fish when I am not.....however..it's that same feeling that makes me want one even more, makes me try harder, fish harder and longer.....I fish alone 99% of the time...not because I want to, but because it's hard for me to find guys to fish with sometimes...but that wont stop me from going out there everytime I can to get me my own cow...it will happen...and it will feel that much better when it does...
It's too bad that a few guys will ruin it for everyone else.....I love to look at large!!
Adamfishes 06-17-2005, 11:55 AM I saw a post on another site that asked if there was any action in the North river or is it over for the season. Pretty funny!
ThrowingTimber 06-17-2005, 12:02 PM Until the day I die, my goal is to stay alive. Survival of the fit, only the strong survive.
Well said #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& :claps:
Squibby17 06-17-2005, 12:48 PM I'm also happy to see other peoples fish. As you can see by my number of posts I'm not exactly a seasoned vetern here. I would be lying if I said I joined this site simply for info. I like the interaction of "fish talk" and not revealing spots and posting your catchs is one of the main reasons this site exists.
If I'm fishing with a friend and we both hook up at the same time. I honestly hope that his fish is bigger than mine. This may be due to the fact that I don't catch "cows" often, so big fish are all good to me even if its not on my line. (like when my sister caught a 38 inch bass last year and I caught blue fish and sea robins)
Pete F. 06-17-2005, 01:11 PM I live for fishing and when you are 200 miles from the ocean sometimes fishporn is all ya get.
piemma 06-17-2005, 01:23 PM Good thing it wasn't some of the old timers. We would have pushed them into the water.
eelman 06-17-2005, 01:41 PM I knew many of the "old timers" they wouldent have pushed anyone in the water, in fact..Gill G, jack sunday, tony bucci, bob ward, all those guys taught me alot they were never rude........
hooked 06-17-2005, 02:05 PM That was a pretty funny story. I don’t feel bad for them, though. 5-6 hours of catching bloos beats my day yesterday by a long shot.
Keep the pictures coming.
RIROCKHOUND 06-17-2005, 02:14 PM There is something to be said about not making any conversation on the rocks and out of habit I stay off a spot if there are people there, especially Newbies and or chunkers, nothing against either, but regardless our fishing styles probably arent going to jive, so I keep away as much as possible;
on the rocks I am far from a surf sharpie; I do pretty well from a boat and hit it hard and do OK from the surf, but I love being out there on the rocks of sand at night..... I enjoy the solitude, the quiet; there are a handfull of guys I fish with, some more than others, it is always fun, but rarely do we stand shoulder to shoulder fishing, you chat on the walk in and the walk out; the rest of the night, go fish...
My habit is to walk by people I dont know, does it make me rude? maybe no news is bad news or vise versa, but I'll stick to my stealth mode
who knows, you may inadvertanly piss someone off, then the come on here and you realize it was someone who had posted for years, or 10min later they realize they'd been had and tires are popped etc.. there are alot of wack jobs out there...
E; you did better then us; ask BIJ about the adventure :D too bad... they were there... just didnt get the drift figured out in time....
Here are a few of Jamie Ms spots.... he wants to share, so everyone should fish there :hihi:

Being from the Lowell area I have many a friend that likes to Fish. I'll see if I can get a big group together for the trip. Jamie M What kind of beer do you drink? I want to make sure we bring enough. Are those places Kid friendly...I got a mess of neices and nephews that will probably be coming.
fishaholic18 06-17-2005, 05:30 PM C'mon guys, go easy.....Pretty funny though... :biglaugh:
Now let's go get some large and post pix tomorrow!!! ;)
In The Surf 06-17-2005, 08:55 PM I don't mean to knock the guy and obviously I don't know how serious he is about the sport or the amount of time he puts in but when you've been a member of a fishing board since January of '01 I don't think your considered a newbie. I know Googan is what would come to the minds of many but again I don't know, there may be circumstances that affect some and their outcome. I'm by no means a sharpie, in fact far from it. I would consider myself a hungry as defined by one of Joe's articles (Googans Vs. Sharpies). I started to get into this seriously about a year and half ago. Fortunate for me I had over 30 plus years of freshwater fishing knowledge and principles to apply. There was still a learning curve but like many I read some of the right books, watch some fishing shows or videos and asked questions from those I know had the answers and were willing to divulge what most consider secret, treasured and valuable info. But most of all I put in the time, that more than anything is what will make you successful and take you through the steps of googan, hungry and sharpie. Time and experience will be your best teachers. It's amazing how much you can learn just by watching those who are successful, though most will happen under the cloak of darkness you'll still see plenty in the evening and false dawn till just after sunrise. Aside from this I'd recommend stopping in the local B&T, tell them what your after, ask where to go and what to use, and make a purchase. That being said I need to get out more, haven't been putting in enough time this year.
