I went down to the canal in the afternoon to check out the herring sitch at Wareham and Bourne. Lots of good size herring milling about. Then I went from there to Matunuck where the strong N / NE wind didn't keep the fish from hitting. I think the storm was a big help. I caught 13 fish, a few doubles on a teaser/ bucktail combo. The color of choice is char over white. The fish seemed to really like the Spro bucktails. They look so real!! So I broke the ice on my first trip. I'm happy. There were two other guys, one fly and one with white bucktails that didn't get any while I was there. I think the unfavorable wind kept a lot of guys home. Last year my first was on April 4th. I guess I'm slipping.

Howdy, cowboy,
What time did you catch those fish? I think you got there just after the wind switched. Most of the morning, it was sse.Thats most likely why the fish were there.
Last night, we did ok there but, the water was HUGE! Was it still big yesterday? Anyway, congrats on breaking the ice! I still wont go tommorow(well....we shall see) I think after it blows all night NE That will end whatever is going on there for a couple of days...But you never know!

No slip Dave, Wall is slow turning on but it is going... Heading down tomorrow weather (sleet outside now) dependant. Good way to break the seasonal ice! Been getting a few in Providence and will spend time at the Wall through this week.

Hit Onset today for a half hour... Will try again there this weekend... Mostly out getting photos of spots.

Ditto on the herring, tons of little buckys in the Wareham and Bourne runs. Was hoping to get permits today (thought only Boston had the day off )but the town halls were all closed...
Getting major itch for the Ditch. Felt good to check out some of the spots that although empty today will be shoulder to shoulder in less than a month...

#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, I was there from around 3:30 to 5:30. I forgot my glacier gloves and was wearing a skirt so I decided to leave because it was so freaking cold. Next time I'll bear down and take the skirt off. Honestly, I had foul weather gear on but it was pretty snotty and I did what I had gone to do. The wind was blowing from that restauraunt across the opening, whatever that water is. It was blowing right on my back, good for casting. I only know the direction from the weather report. Don't think I'll be going down today... Probably bring some herring next week. Christen the new tank.

John, I went to the wareham town hall yesterday too! Wish I could have got that taken care of.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Nice to see you. long time no read.

do any of you guys know of a quick and easy fishing spot from fall river. i'll be there with my son's cubscouts pack later this month. is it worth bringing my fishing gear to sneak an hour or two around there? thanks for any info.

JCX - There should be good fishing by then. Plenty of places between Providence and the Canal. So a sneak for a couple hours is definitely in order ! Over the bridge into Somerset, Ma and Bristol, RI as well as heading south into Tiverton, RI and Westport, Ma... Oh and yes you are 45 minutes to the Canal (probably not large there until early May)...

Shoot me an e-mail and I can get you more detail before you come up here...

Bucktail Jigs, Soft plastics, swimmers, herring - depends on where you are and what/where is hot. Which weekend are you looking at??
