My laptop just started showing a bunch of pencil thin white vertical lines all the way across the screen. Any ideas??

Can you do anything with it? If so, it is probably a screen issue. If not, then a more serious issue.

Compaq?

They're famous for it.

i had the same problem with ibook mac, its the processor.
you can tap the area around the front of the computer and make it flicker.
the repair involved return with new software 3 times !! beware back up your files ...I didnt lose anything in the repair...
i had a pink screen with horizontal lines, while underneath all of the mess, it ran perfect, just couldnt see it !

Could be your video connection is getting lose. My Dell did that. Take the unit apart ( basic ) and just tighten the connector from video card to LCD screen. Dell had a section that detailed this fix.

All set called Compaq last friday, they sent me a box overnight. I removed the harddrive, and sent the thing out on monday, got it back today with a new lcd screen. Not bad service... :thanks:

Don't hold your breath.I found Compaq's customer service to be the worst I've ever dealt with. That and the Providian Credit Card company.

Mine went to Compaq 4 seperate times with some of the most bizarre repairs
done to it.After the fourth time I finally got a new computer. It also had the same problem. Now I just deal with it by giving it a tap and its fine.I just won't deal with Compaq again.

I shoulda stuck with Toshiba. Now THEY have good customer service IF you need it.Toshiba laptops are great. And you actually get to talk to someone without an Indian accent.

If you give any of em a hard enough time they'll be forced to bend over backwards.

I screamed at some poor Indian dude on Friday about 2 Dell laptops and they're shipping brand new ones Monday AM on next day. :hihi:

Speaking of "poor indian dudes"....

It's a shame how they're outsourcing IT support issues to other countries...YES< other countries....I deal with support teams on a daily basis, and NO, they don't just have an accent and work in NY...they have an accent and live in Indonesia..............it's ALL about the Benjamins baby.... :rude:

I worked a job when XML first appeared in the world with an Indian on an H1B, he wanted nothing to do with the rest of us, just coded and kept to himself.

Eventually drove my boss up the walls and he fired him.
It was a 10 person company so getting along was a necessity.

He also didn't like the boss's dog or mine that were in the office every day.
