The other morning I am fishing a remote spot...as the sun creeps up I see the fins all around me. Damn...they are bass! All sizes but mostly in the keeper range a few smaller a few larger but there were some larger fish in the mix. Finning like sharks. They were feeding on the tons of krill like shrimp about 1/4-1/2 in in lenght. The beach was covered with them you could scoop them up by the handful still alive. The water was rich with these critters and the bass were keyed in on them. I saw many schools of fish all moving slowly with their mouth open gulping these down. Lots of swirls and splashes all night. It was quite a site. (no camera :() and pretty frustrating. I tried everything in my bag and put plug(s) right in front of them 10' off the beach and they didn't even budge. Eels were being mostly ignored. I did manage a couple bumps and two modest fish but there were A LOT of fish there feeding on this stuff. I may go back with a flyrod.

Jim I seen that two years in a row now where there is cow bass just cruising with their mouths wide open. That is the coolest thing to watch. Last year when I saw that I had a BASSALO in 3' of water on an olive white popper on a north facing beach :)

Hey you seeing bonito out there with regularity?

#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, Yes I think I saw that show. The fellow was trying for a world record on some 2# fly rod tippet and was hooking up with 20# fish. I think, I think he was on the cape. I saw him break off three times. These fish I saw were just swimming around with thier mouths open...their upper lip was out of the water along with the dorsal and tail fins. Weird sight to see groups of 50+ fish swimmig like that and you drag a small minnow like plug thru them and it goes unmolested.

Scott, yeah that was what they were doing. I couldn't buy a fish that morning, they looked like basking sharks feeding. It was flat clam in 3-7' of water. Re:bonito I made my first bone trial the other day and all I got were blues. They do pop up here and there but I think there is only one body of fish around here just now. Give it a couple more weeks. there was 2-days of activity with blitzs at times at the famed hotspot but it is not a sure thing right now.

blue, I only had mostly big fish stuff (no teaser) with me as I had to walk a long way.I bet a fly would nab a few of the smaller fish.

I know the spot that was on Fishing New England. I can tell you that the fish aren't always there like that, but they are often...the amazing thing is that they have to come up a stream that it about four feet wide and two feet deep, about 300 hundred yrads long, then go through a #$%^ to get to that pond. The guy was catching them as the tide flooded through the #&^%. I can say that it is on the Cape, but if I say more I WILL be killed in my sleep. I guess the bottom line is...do some exploring and never underestimate stripers!
