These things are crap. The new ones are a pain in the a$$$$.

Long story short, the battery in my wifes car crapped, I changed it the day before the inspection. Took it down to get the sticker, machine says OBD not ready. The guy rejects the car says drive it on the highway, in the city bla bla bla. So for the next 2 months I drive the thing back and forth to work everyday, 2 trips to the cape, 3 to RI. I have put 2000 miles on this thing in 60 days. Go back for reinspection, and the machine says the same thing. What a crock give me my damn sticker! The guy gave me a book to look up my car, and in it were some instructions on how to get the computer ready. lets just say I would need a highway all to myself to do this crap.. This state sucks. :poke: :gorez: :nailem: :fishslap:

Bill, been thru that many times, take it out and basically beat the crap out of it.
Accell pretty hard(usually 3/4 throttle or so) thru the gears then let it decell down almost to a stop. Computer has to see this 3 times to calibrate sensors. Also, let it warm up and cool down 3 times, but you prob. already did that. Had to go thru this at the dealership everytime I had to replace a battery.

How long do you plan keeping the car? If it's a beater(I have no clue) then there is a one time inspection sticker exemption from the RMV. All you need is receipts showing you made an effort to fix or correct the problem and the cost is so prohibitive that it exceeds the value of the car. This is mostly aimed at students who have little money and the cars usually last less than 1 year. I learned about this at a training class last year and don't know anyone personally who has used or tried to use it yet.

But I agree, the sticker inspection process really stinks. My new truck was almost rejected because I had the windows tinted. It's a crap shoot every time.

Bill let my wife drive it for a day or 2.. it'll get the work out, and you will have NO carbon in the cylinders either ;)... most of us treat the throttle like a rheostat, apply needed pressure to get needed response... with her, it's more like an off/on switch.. Floor it, run it thru the gears, then all-stop... I changed out the battery in her Expedition last year... inspection week later... no issues :hihi: always one of the cleanest readouts, on her vehicles... :hihi:

A mechanic friend told me to let my tank run down under an eigth and put in a couple bottles of drygas(alcohol). Runs cleaner/ less emitions? 87 Chevy 3/4 ton I had passed everytime. Helped that the Insp.-station also sold gas and wanted to know if I wanted to fill up afterwards. Yes sir! :wid:

curious is................ the Bush Administrations position....

Scientists all agree that global warming is happening and caused by humans burning fossil fuels. 7/10 th's of 1 degree rise since 1970....
~
on the one hand its said that mandatory caps are not needed because of voluntary efforts.... yet what's a car's inspection sticker for...thats certainly not (voluntary) [safety issues aside...]
by our choice, and is mandatory.....

quote:
His administration has argued strongly against mandatory climate-related emissions caps, contending that its voluntary program is countering the growth of those emissions, but not actually reducing the tons annually being released into the atmosphere.

My advice is to know someone who does the inspections. Its all bout who you know. There has to be a few mechanics that would trade plugage for a nice shiny inspection sticker. Another hint for passing emissions. If you have snow tires on they have to do the tail pipe test as opposed to the other one thats tougher to pass. If its before may 1 throw some snows on the vehicle and hope for the best, thats the only reason i passed the emissions and its pretty good for a ford ranger with 190k. he said i was close but was a pass none the less. For me knowing a good mechanic is about as important as knowing a good cop.

Same thing if you have all wheel drive or full-time 4wd.

Just spent 500 bucks to have ball joints done in my rejected F 150. Sucks. Paul

My F150 had the same, I got a call from the dealer, saying "there is a problem with the front end, it will cost 80 bucks to diagnose." and the brake pedal is low. (Since when is that on the inspection)

I told him to put a rejected on it and he was shocked You don't wnat us to fisx it????. YEA RIGHT buddy i gonna give you 80 bucks just to tell me what the problem is then hundreds more to fix it !!!!!

Took it to my mechanic, and OK the lower BJs were worn, so he replaced them, 2 brake lines which broke during the repair, and I wanted 4 new shocks. 850$$ , and I adjusted the rear brakes to bring the pedal up.
Got my sticker yesterday.
