...I'm no expert on this, but I've always had better luck gettin em' at night. Although the morning isn't too bad, up until breakfast...but I think Night-time is the Right-time, and I've found that they tend to like cleaner water...as far as tides, gottem' on both...if they're in...they're in :D but if I had to pick a tide...it would be incoming...an hour after low!

...I'm not too sure they're keen to shallow water, maybe Fish_Eye could share some love on the depth subject. They do have incredible visioin though!!!...at a certain spot I know which is lit after dark, I've held my jig an inch ABOVE the water line and had them come right up to the surface to investigate, I always thought the lights against the surface of the water would eliminate any possible vision creating a mirror like effect, kinda like snorkeling :confused:Fish Eye?? .....and like Mr. Sandman said...they're real freekie, they hover like spaceships.. ...next time ya go squiddin...watch how they can "YO-YO" along with your jig...he's right, it's definately a Great time...as well as great eatin.

I never really paid any attention to the tide like bloo said if their in their in...... But I have caught squid in very shallow water I'm talking less than 2 feet. Wish I had a camera with me it was really something. They were almost translucent under the light. It was like I could see the sandy bottom through them thats how good they match. Sometimes when they are cruising the surface I make a snaggin rig with 3 or 4 trembles about 2/0 and snag them on the surface. Sometimes the squid never make it to the surface and stay deep so you gotta do some probing with your squid jig and put some time in. Sometimes they will be there and you just don't see them. So make sure you give it time. I have always caught squid at night never in the day. Sometimes I will know the squid are in but they don't arrive untill later in the night so i wait a couple hours for them to come in.

At BI I've found squiding at Paynes to be better on higher water than lower water. The squid are still there but moe picky. I think the skinny water makes they more skitish.
