I went to school for fisheries management, and here I am working for a commercial masonry contractor. I just got a raise so that I am no longer the lowest-paid employee. Yet I handle payroll, accounts receivable and payable, equipment rental, job costing, rides for employees without cars, job supervising, mild computer tech support, quality control...you name it. I get hassled to no end about days off, cell phone minutes, other people's mistakes... What is expected of me is not challenging, but impossible. Working for family is not a good thing. I simply get taken advantage of, and I'm getting fed up. Maybe this should go in the classifieds, but if anyone gets wind of a sailing/mating or resource conservation job, could you please give me a heads up? It would be greatly appreciated, and I could remain sane. I'll move if the job pays my bills. Thanks in advance!
how about this:

if you want to move, there are many more where that came from... like hawaii http://tinyurl.com/9934p
and if you want to sail/mate as in on a pleasure type craft, just spend a couple days in newport. jobs are plentiful right now, but hurry up because everyone is heading south real soon. the time is NOW

I feel your pain - I think I am the lowest paid Lead Geek in Rhode Island. Actually, there are two people with comparable positions in RI K-12 education that get paid the same as me, of course, they have their summers off :lasso: :nailem:

I've been working highend residential construction here in Newport for a long time and in the company I work for the person who does your job is the highest paid person in the company other than the owners.
 I feel for ya.

Depends on what your experience is.
I know of atleast a few boats headed south for the winter that need paid crew.
Also one headed to the Med after that.

Likwid, I've worked on a Tall Ship and have been second mate, as well as fill-in for first's days off. I'm a little rusty, as it's been 2 years, but it's not stuff you forget. I have enough time to get my able seaman card, just not enough money. Bane of my existence -- salary. Gotta pay the bills, gotta.
