View Full Version : tuesday night pogey paint
thefishingfreak 08-09-2005, 09:11 PM i'm in the cave, and i got wood to paint.
here's a bunch o' pics.
start with black.
smooth,,,, like salty's head.
mask it off nice and tight with toole'
thefishingfreak 08-09-2005, 09:14 PM white, down the belly.
silver, down a little lower..... don't cover the white.
thefishingfreak 08-09-2005, 09:18 PM gold, down the side.don't clean the gun you'll need that same gold.
lets see what we did?
thefishingfreak 08-09-2005, 09:36 PM flip it over and re-mask with toole' nice and tight.
same gold on top.
thefishingfreak 08-09-2005, 09:56 PM add a little bit of black, to the gold, for the top.
then clearcoat.
i put a little bit of blue, and a little bit of purple pearl in the clear.
that's how you get the scale pattern to go all the way arround the plug :buds:
justplugit 08-09-2005, 10:10 PM An Awesome thread TFF.:btu: Thanks for sharing that. :D

I can't wait to take you out on the boat
Young Salt 08-10-2005, 04:14 PM incredible TFF
How do you get the 'seam' so tight, does that just come with practice?
When you are spraying the second half, how do you keep overspray from getting on the first half you just sprayed?
thefishingfreak 08-10-2005, 07:04 PM i don't try to line up the seam at all.
just start with the same color when you flip it over.
if you look real close you can see where they meet. probly because the toole' i use is very small. and every angle you hold it your looking at a different color.
that, plus the glitter in the clear makes for too much to focus on at one time so it fools the eye a little.
the angle you hold the spray gun will not let the paint on top get on the bottom. i tried to get the spray gun in the pics just for that reason, the spray angle.
every one i've given/swapped, it gets the same response?
"how do you get the scale to go all the way arroud"??
stripercrazy 08-10-2005, 07:29 PM wow, excellent color :ss:
justplugit 08-10-2005, 07:49 PM TFF unbelievable work. :kewl:I know you believe in bonding quickly between
paint coats, but how long do you wait before clear coating?
thefishingfreak 08-10-2005, 07:57 PM maybe 15 minutes. just enough time for the base coat to flash off{touchable}.
that plug was black, to clear in about 1/2 hour.
thefishingfreak 08-10-2005, 08:16 PM if your gonna spin it with thick clear like e-tex i'd wait a little longer maybe an hour. so the colors don't sag. or maybe a light coat of rattle can clear to lock everything in place beforehand?
sem makes some nice rattle can clear thats uv proof and hardens up nice.
thefishingfreak 08-10-2005, 08:23 PM sorry my mistake.....
not sem rattle can.
u-pol rattle can clear.
we use it to cheat in the shop. inside of doors, fender edges that need a good shine over the basecoat without having to mix a batch of eurethane.
maybe i'll bring a case or two to plug night.
