We've been mostly fishing the Pisquataqua and Portsmouth Harbor for Stripers but would like to try some Cod/Haddock fishing. Any tips out there from some of you long timers? We went out past the Isles of Shoals last weekend in 200ft of water but no luck. Did see a whale and a seal and it was a beautiful afternoon on the boat so definitely not a total waste. Any tips would be appreciated, ie: bait, technique, depth etc

250-300 feet.
16 oz. jigs with pelican green teasers for cod.
haddock will hit jigs also but you'll do better with clams. more dogfish with clams too, so it's a tossup.
head out to tantas' or if you can make it jeffreys you'll have a better shot at them.any kind of structure, contour change will keep them arround. just aviod large areas of flat featureless bottom.

I would agree for most consitant, ,go to Jeffreys Ledge, :) That's like saying fish in NH,, it's a big area,,

Get a Captain Segull's Sport Fishing Chart,, They have a web site. It lists fishing spots,, these are a good place to start.

you will hear people say fish Mud hole,, old or new Scantum, in the Cove,,
you look at that map and you will see what they are talking about.

Warning,, if it's not big,, be very carefull going far out,, weather can change quick and no fish is worth it.
But as long as you choose your days and bail when it even looks of being bad, you can have a blast

We have a 19 ft center console so not sure about going too far out. It would be better if we could go with a group or another boat. We did hit 200 ft of water just after Isles of Shoals but it looked like flat sandy bottom. Thanks for the tips so far. We will give it another shot soon.
