Afternoon Everyone,
This past weekend we scored big while chumming and chunking in the harbor. We caught and released over 40 keepers in a five hour period :hee: . The biggest was 40 inches(about 25 lbs), they averaged between 30 and 33 inches.
I use Penn 4400SS and 4500SS spinners on 7 ft Fenwick rods. By the end of the day the drags were starting to bind a little and they sounded pretty bad. I think they need replacing.
Has anyone used the "Smoothie" replacement drag washers? Should I replace them with the original equipment (HT100)? Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks, and tight lines!

Yeah it was unbelievable. We had a guy with us who's from Nepal (home of Mt Everest). He had never caught a fish. He's going to think it's always like that.

That's happened to me with the HT-100s when they get wet during a good day of fishing. A while ago I started greasing them with Shimano drag grease. I have not needed to change a greased HT-100 since. After greasing they are not affected by water and are smooth like butter.

Smoothies are good, but I would simply replace the stock HT-100's as they are good as well and more readily available.

Time to get a bigger reel..................:D

Last winter I put the smoooothies in a 112H. I don't think they are any better or smoother thatn the stock HT100's. I was a bit disapointed after installing them.

I took the drag apart to find it was loaded with salt and grit. I cleaned it up and it seems to run smoothly now.
We'll see how it works if I hook in to a 40+ lb SBFT this weekend
