after the last drug run from nantucket to chatham with 9 bullet hole's below the water line, the oak tree is ready once again to float on the water like a butterfly.

John.....my mech. said to tell you the guy was very good that had it when you picked it up......top notch.

Good new :tooth: should be worth a couple plugs :hihi: or a trip on your Seacrapper. The guy I bought it from said he maintained that motor for a while and he believed it to be in very good shape. :btu:

Steve, what happened? did your transom fall off?
sounds like quite a project, I saw Greviskas do that once on shipshape, of course he makes it look easy.

long story...short version...saw a split in the stern bottom this spring...stuck a flatbar in it and peeled the stern skin right off....guy that had it before me had the motor well filled in,,3" x20",,but instead of just patching in the hole the bone heads took a skillsaw to the whole stern skin and cut it off..when they put it back, they only over lapped the new glass by a 1/2"..and the water that had settled in the bottom froze over the winter and it split..so I got the sawall out and cut the entire stern out and 3' into the inside....month and a half later[everynite after work and every weekend] it's done.. new motor's hung,,but the mech..grandmother showed up so now it won't get fired off till next tue. nite....which is fine cause it's not going to get thrown together just so I can use it for the weekend...waited this long..few more day's won't kill me.

ran outta lite tonite before I got to take her for a spin...dang mech. wouldn't come back..when he did he smiled all the way back to his truck. I couldn't ask for a better riding boat for where I go..even 12' sea's/with white caps were nothing.........with luck she'll only need spark plug's..I'll keep your in mind..txs.

what year is that motor?

reason i ask is it looks like an older vx76*?
should be a little splatter out the back of that rear port when running.
poppet valve might be clogged? sand will do that in no time.
that would explane the strait pipe sound.
pisser stream looks good.

capesams

"91" my mech. said it sound's like the other mech. took off some of the top of the exh. port . said they sometimes do that on racin motor's when they turn them up ??? also said I couldda gotten a 50 hp instead cause of the way I drive bein an old fart an all.

thefishingfreak

that should be chuggin water out the back at idle. ka-whoosh,,,,ka-whoosh.
poppet valve is blocked.
it looks like a small t-stat housing way down low, under the computer.take it appart. rubber seal and all, and clean the sand out.
the spring. the plastic thingy. etc...
it olny goes one way, so put it back in right.

hot-rodders drill holes in the back of the housing to make them louder/relieve exaust pressure.

look on iboats.com in the yamaha section. everything you ever wanted to know about those old yamahas.

capesams

plain old calf...laytex porch an deck enamel...wears like iron...stick's to anything...if you want it off you have to grind it off...same stuff is on the side's where the gas filter and cable's are...scrub all you want with bleach and soap....the paint stay's put.

the deck is humped up in the middle and tapered to the side's to just beyond the knee's to the scupper's that are on the inside corner's,,,water in,,water out,,,no standing water.

laytex porch/ deck enamel w/epoxy all in one can..may work on plug's??
