Just did a week long different type mileage check outta my truck, to see how bad it is....

98 F-150 ex-cab short bed, 4.6 , 4X4, automatic:

Just did 2 straight days of Highway, filled the tires to 35 pounds, gave it a fresh wash job, drove it like I stole it, speed limits in 3 states were broken :D, (vowed not to change driving style, to alter results)
19.1 MPG... (I was pleased and surprised)

Around town, with air in tires, 15.5, some sit and wait, some run and gun.

Beach driving, some around town, aired down, (my usual summer M.O.)
11.6 ( So maybe I'll actually air up every time, from now on)

All three were better than I would have figured.....

So... how you guys doing?

I average 16.2 mpg that's highway, city, beach, pulling my small boat, and pulling an enclosed trailer full of cabinets. I use it for sightseeing, work and fishing.I can only afford one truck and this one does it all. If I drive all highway, I'd get 18-19 easy if I stay at 65 or under.
34 gallon tank cost 100 bucks to fill :nailem:

98 Chevy Minivan....Won't drive on beach, but is very suitable for Rhody Fishing. 25 MPG if I keep it at 70, goes to 20 when I need to drive in CT style traffic where either the gas or the brake pedal is on the floor at all times.......

Man, you must have a death wish, buying a car called the Exploder. ;)

My Escort...not the male one, the Ford one... goes over 300 miles on about 10 gallons. So 30 mpg on average. I haven't bothered to calculate highway versus rural routes. Good fishmobile, as long as I stick to 2-piece rods and one or no passengers.

2004 TrailBlazer. Computer says 18.5 MPG average. Not so bad for a mid-size SUV. If I took the 700 odd plugs, 2 pair of waders, jackets, 120 qt cooler and assorted other junk out I probably would get 20. I carry too much junk with me.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee -- 18 MPG -- mostly highway

Believe it or not, I just got over 22 mpg on my trip home from the Cape on Sunday with my 2002---and that included some local running around yesterday before I gassed up

Normally, I do 20, maybe 21 on a trip, 19-20 on "NY style" highway, and 17 or so with a mix of driving. Maybe 16 with 15-20 miles of the beach thrown in.

4 liter straight 6 with automatic O/D.

04 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Quad Cab LWB with 6spd Cummins, 35" tires, 4" lift, exhaust, AFE intake, blah, blah, blah

My average since new over 41,308 miles is 17.36 mpg (I keep a spreadsheet) :). This average includes everything from traffic, some heavy towing, city, highway, warm ups, etc. However, on open highway running 75mph I get 21+ mpg. Stopping and starting a 8k lb truck around town REALLY kills my overall mileage.

EDIT: As a side note, check out what the IRS is doing for Diesel owners. You'd think to be fair they would do the same for gasoline running vehicles but nooo!

Just bought a 98 Tacoma to replace my 90 corolla (that got 30MPG)...not good timing for this I might add,,,,,

I did one check so far and was getting 21mpg (around town)....seems as though the second tank of gas is going less quickly (its a standard and its been awhile if you know what I mean) I think as my Manual shifting skills get better so is the gas mileage!!!! Is this feasible???

04 F150 SCAB 4x4 5.4L 305HP V8, 3.73 :crying: gears: 34,000 - 80% HWY miles in past 13 months :eek5:

12-13 around town, 15 hwy, average 13-14 mpg.

Previous I had a 03 Silverado ExtCab z71 with the 4.8 and 3.43 gears which I was able to get an average of 17-18 mpg mixed driving and could push over 20mpg trip averages on highway by using built in fuel computer (need steering wheel controls for instantaneous fuel economy). Was relatively speaking - pretty good on gas for a V8 Full Size.

The fuel computer was not an option on my F150 XLT so I just bought a scanguage (http://www.scanguage.com (http://www.scanguage.com/)) that was delivered Saturday. In two days of playing with the GPH/MPG settings I am bringing my average so far up to 16MPG. Should take ten tanks of gas or less to recoup cost of unit but ten tanks for me is two months :( and after that it starts directly saving me some coin.

Oh no no no Confrere, the lil computer in my truck tell's all:bshake: The little computer that tell's all, as in instantaneous MPG, can add two-four MPG when used to keep optimal speed settings. It is interesting how a very slight lift of the foot at 60 mph will go from one MPG to something 30% higher and still (barely) maintain the same speed.... I never believed it at first but ran several compare tests tanks by not paying attention to the fuel comp and paying attention to the fuel comp and it was right on the money with what my tank fillups was saying. Learning further how to drive with the computer does add MPG...

John I too did the math,I would up fill my truck make a fishing run to the Canal come back and top off again, then divide the amout of gallons by the mileage & it was dead on.
I have always been one for manual trany's(better fuel eco) but my new ride came w/ five spd. auto which I now love and would be hard pressed to going back to manual,If IM light on the peddel and cruise between 68-72 w/ no A/C or no windshield defogger on IM right on the money.

Plus I also bought a K&N air filter, right out of the box it will increase my horse power 5-7% and increase's my fuel economy by 1-3 miles guaranteed! Not to mention this thing is also good for a Million miles!!!It's a no brainer to get this w/ the price of fuel these days and that you never have to change it.
