Well my quest to explore South County and search for nice fishy water took me to Hazard Ave this AM for the first time. Always heard about that area but never ventured there. Holy crap that area looks damn fishy!! Put on my studded wading boots and went for a walk. How people fish that area without Korkers or some kinda studded boots is beyond me. Anyway I already picked you guys brains for some good Breachway lures so what is the weapon of choice for plugs in this type of area? Same kinda plugs for breachways? Looks like some nice deep diving plugs would be the ticket. Any suggestions? I'm in a question asking kinda mood this week! :tooth:

Def not fishing there when the surfs up. Today it was almost flat calm so it was rather easy to move around and i didnt need to dodge waves. If there are big ass waves crashing who in thier right mind would be out there! I guess there is always some idiot risking it.

there is a starnge thing that happens down there and i have fallen for it once. You will think that the waves are all coming in at the same height and you'll set up shop thinking you are safe, then in about 15 minutes a humungous swell will roll in up to your hips and take you down and out. This usually happens on the incoming tide. It can be good there sometimes. Other times it is devoid of bass. its safer at newton ave.

My favorite plug for those areas is an eel. :uhuh:

have tom meade put in a report of blitzing bass at hazard ave in this friday's paper..that should provide ample footage for saturday.

Those deep water areas can be very dangerous. Like Eben said they can sneak up on you. Its unpredictable as for months it can be fine then one night you get the rogue wave that catches you off guard in a spot you thought was high and dry. In a matter of seconds an area can be dry, and then with a swell have 10 feet of water in it. Not a place you want to go in.

I've spent a lot of time snokeling the water in those areas and other deep shorelines. Getting in and out of the water there in the day time alone with flippers can be living hell if you choose the wrong stretch. I've seen guys that chose the wrong spots and they get smashed mulitple times. 2 weeks ago I got caught in a rip that I had a hard time getting out of even with fins on. Like anywhere you have to respect the water no matter how large or small.

Rizzo, I'll have to bring you along to save my plugs from all those darn pots. But I digress.

Skip, AH Spooksters and Jr Spooksters seem to be the way to go over there, at least in my experience. Cheaper stuff if the blues are out. As for impending doom, paranoia's the best policy. Never turn your back to the water and consider heavily if you actually want to fish after dark. Oh! And look out for pools of fetid water among the large rocks. Stick your bag, or god forbid, a$$, down in one, and it'll smell worse than a dog pile. Man, it's a bad stink. :yak6:

I've gone down there before and now won't consider fishing it unless its daytime AND I have on SOSpenders. I'm a *big* guy with a 4 year old, not taking those chances...

i have caught quite a few large bass wit tog in there gullets.the only problem wit livelinen em is the like to find nooks an crannies in the rocks an hide in em.plus the good size ones are illegal to keep.they are hardy tho.

2 years ago I got knocked in by a rouge wave. Lucky my uncle was there and threw me a life ring. I never fish there alone anymore.

Gets too crowded in the daytime. The Rockhound and I have been know to crawl Hazard in the dead of night. Never taken a real good fish there. Maybe mid 20s is the biggest. Don't even think about it unless you know the rocks, have good Korkers with ALL the studs sharp and are tightly belted off.

I'm not known to do anything...

Thanks for all the input...I'll pick and choose my days and def wont fish nights over there. Not worth getting killed over to catch a few fish. Especially when SoCo is loaded with so many other great spots.

OK, I am going to let the cat out of the bag. Jeff Spencer is, in fact, a total ball buster all the time. Do not believe anything this person ever posts because he is never serious about what he states. I also am led to believe that he has an unnatural fondness for Skip.

i've fished with BI jeff a few times.. hes a good angler, he is a sharpie for sure. how many 50's do you have i asked him- i forget was his reply.

sadly i no longer fish with him as he is in the neuvo riche crowd.. me and my old money newport lifestyle and him with his neuvo flash just didnt bond well. Boy he was lucky to sell all that junk Razor Fish stock back in the late 90's... he would be nothing now if he hadnt cashed in his chips at the right time.

Well there you have it, the secret is out. we did fish together and i miss him deerly. man he could get some fine caviar.
