View Full Version : Is Edgar Renteria The Worst Shortstop Ever?
BigFish 09-16-2005, 04:20 PM Man does he suck! Every night he is dropping cans of corn and booting balls a 12 year old could gobble up! He has to go! I gave him the benefit of the doubt the first few months of the season but feel he is getting progressively worse!
afterhours 09-16-2005, 04:41 PM 27 errors- he leads the world. cabrerra has 5 and will win gold glove. oh well- sometimes ya come up smelling good and sometimes ya don't. don't worry we will prevail! :bgi:
Raider Ronnie 09-16-2005, 05:23 PM Could be worse,
The Sox could still have Nomar.
They should have resigned Cabrerra!!!
BigFish 09-16-2005, 05:27 PM Ron...I am scared....I agree with you on all 3 counts! :bgi:
Raider Ronnie 09-16-2005, 05:35 PM Is Jerry Remy still calling him (rent-a-wreck) ?
Mike P 09-16-2005, 06:06 PM You guys must be too young to remember Don Buddin :D
One of the Boston writers joked that he should have ordered "E-6" as his vanity plate :humpty:
Talk about an "all clank" infield---Buddin at short, Pumpsie Green at 2d, and #^&#^&#^&#^& "Dr Strangeglove" Stuart at 1st. Stuart once got a standing O for picking up a wind-blown hot dog wrapper without dropping it :laugha:
ProfessorM 09-16-2005, 06:08 PM As I said on the other post people used to bitch about Nomar's defense and he was and is ,when healthy, a much better fielder than Edgar and a much better hitter esp. for power than Edgar ever dreamed to be. He has been disapointing all around. Maybe he will feel more comfortable next year. :rollem: Nice when you can suck and still make millions. Paul
BigFish 09-16-2005, 06:45 PM I will keep Renteria over a healthy Nomore anyday! :bgi: I thought all of the Hall Of Fame talk about Nomore was too premature...and I was right.....he is about done! Even if he turns it around he will never reach the hall.....I never was a big Nomore fan! Steroids for sure!
Squid kids Dad 09-16-2005, 06:57 PM He certainly is the worst this year..God knows how he is a 2 gold glove winner???
Slipknot 09-16-2005, 07:46 PM I don't know Larry, he just helped turn a double play in the rain :D
maybe he turned a new leaf,
but then again, maybe I'll catch a 60 pounder tomorrow. :rollem:

figured this was a bf thread before I even opened it.
1 1/2 ahead and starting to freak out. The guy will perform right when you think he won't and it probably will win you the division. short is an unforgiving position. remember the last guy you had ? remember the disgust you had ?
who's next ?
this is coming from a yankees fan..... :laugha:
BigFish 09-16-2005, 09:05 PM First of all BW...I am not worried about the Sox in the standings...thus, not freaking out! Second.....Renteria sucks...plain and simple! He is a small market player....he blooms in places like St. Louis or maybe Kansas City but put him in New York or Boston and he is a shrinking violet! Third...if it comes down to him making a play with the division hingeing on it....I say he will be the poster boy to replace Bill Buckner! :bgi:
Bigcat 09-16-2005, 11:36 PM He flat out sucks, now he is one for twenty something at the plate :realmad:
beachwalker 09-17-2005, 05:43 AM then maybe you are on to something.... it worked last yea. But then again it might be to late ?
trade him (to bad it wasn't last month) and you will defend your ws crown
ProfessorM 09-17-2005, 09:21 AM [QUOTE=BigFish]I will keep Renteria over a healthy Nomore anyday!
I would have to disagree. I would take a healthy Nomar over Edgar without a doubt. I will say I wasn't thrilled with his attitude most of the time, the personality of a wet sock, but he was a hell of a player when healthy. Paul
I'm trying so, so hard to give Renteria the benefit of the doubt and will turn things around. I figure multiple gold gloves, WS ring, ect. But I just say Kendall hit a double for the A's in the top of the 8th, then Renteria had a complete brain fade and missed an easy, easy cutoff throw, that allows Kendall to advance to 3rd. Ultimately, no damage done, but what the hell is wrong???????? This is not the same guy who played for St. louis.
beachwalker 09-17-2005, 08:58 PM maybe your talking a little sense here bf. Watched Rents last at bat tonight and it was pitiful.
Manny on the other hand ?
what a hitter that guy is. unreal....
vineyardblues 09-21-2005, 01:08 PM WAIT until his 2nd year :)
Look at how bad the A-rod whole was last year and now look at him.
It's a strange 1st year thingy...
Hey what ever happed to His Very very very very close good buddy Jetter?
Looks like someone is putting out this year ...lol
You guys must be too young to remember Don Buddin
Remember him? How could you forget him? :( Averaged nearly 30 errors per year while playing for the Red Sox. Rentaria is a gold glover by comparison.
And Dr. Strangeglove was a piece of work as well. He made some great plays on balls hit to either side. But if a ball was hit directly at him... forget about it.
Surfcastinglife 09-27-2005, 10:17 PM renteria has lost more games then ortiz has won this year :hang:
I don't know if he's lost more games than Ortiz has won, but you'd expect Boston to get a better return for their dollar. A $40 million, four year contract ain't exactly chump-change.
Bass Babe 09-27-2005, 10:36 PM Think about how the poor guy must feel out there every day listening to his name over the loudspeaker. He must imagine in his head, the announcer saying, "And last nite, I had a very bad case of renteria. I didn't get off the john for hours..." But he should just be glad his name ain't Pujols. Pujols...hahahaha. I crack myself up.
And yes, I agree. Renteria simply is not that good. What happened between last season and this, besides a team change?

You may be onto something here VB. Up until yesterday I agreed with every post in this thread. But... his bat's been on fire the last couple of games. Let's hope he keeps it up.
