After spending 20 years on the cape(Wellfleet), I have not been back in quite a while.I will be fishing there this Fri thru Mon. I am looking for a bait shop to get sand eels on my way onto the cape. Will be arriving about 3 AM Friday. Is there anything open?????? I hate to wait till 7 or 8 AM. Thank you in advance for your help.

If your going to Wellfleet, call Blackbeards in Eastham. In the past they have left bait for me in a cooler when I called in advance. If going to PTown, try the same with Nelsons on Race Point Road. Goose Hummock in Orleans is right off the rotary, you could try them as well.

I completely agree. Blackbeards is pissa. Paul and Connie are good people, and they go out of their way to help you out :btu:

I buy mostly everything from there (living down the street doesn't help :hee: ), and they have the best prices around, that I've seen. They usually always have fresh sand eels, and their regular eel prices are still the cheapest I've seen.

The number there is (508) 240-3369

You won't get an answer to that here. Read the Oct OTW thread and you'll see why.

I did read it and understand.I'm not looking for spots.I usually fish the ocean beaches in Wellfleet .I was wondering how the fishing was... not any details on spots.I usually check out the beaches at low tide and fish according to what the structure shows me. The big question I had was what was the dreaded mung situation on the cape???? When you travel 8 hours to fish an area that you have come to love you hope to have some advice.

I can't speak to Wellfleet, but the Truro and Race area is pretty mungy. There are a few clear spots. A charter friend fishing the area reported a lot of weed (mung) in the water. The forecasted N/NE winds will only make it worse pushing the mung up near the beaches. Phillipe (TS/Hurricane) is an unpredicable factor.

Prolly worth going (I hear there are fish around)...but the number of available spots to fish could be very limited. Also, if yer boat fishing, the back has huge swells right now.
