I am looking into a mooring or slip in the North River as I am losing a lot of usage due to trailering. I have small kids and the added time and hassle of launching and loading is really a deterant to the admiral.

I have an 18' GW CC that i usually only put in the river for Spit trips and launch from Scituate when fishing. How often is the mouth of the river a real problem for a boat like mine -- I'm fairly experienced and would generally not be taking the family out with me. I know it can be nasty...

Any thoughts on N. River Marine or Kings Landing? How about James Landing?

Capecodder, out of the three you listed, I'd say NRM. I had my mooring and slip there for years. The Zarella's are decent folks too. Kings landing is a bit too far upriver for my liking and James Landing is way too much $$$. The other alternative is Mary's Boat Livery. No slips there. Just moorings and floating docks. They'll ferry you out to your boat. I'd still go with NRM though. Just prepare yourself for the No-See-Ums and green head flies :eek5: The mouth of the river can definately get a bit treacherous at times like an east wind with the outgoing tide will stand those waves right up. Just got to learn to work around tide and wind conditions like that. Beamie keeps his boat over at Mary's so if he weighs in on this one, he'd be able to shed some light on their operation. I like the area and even though I trailer my boats now, I still frequent there a lot.

CapeCodder,

BigBo pretty much hit all the points.

I am not at Mary's, I am lucky enough to have a town of Marshfield permitted mooring and a shared neighborhood dock to load and offload a few bends up from Mary's, for short money.

NRM and Mary's would be your best bet. Both run by good people. Gerry Duffy at Mary's is top notch. Be prepared to shell some coin as every marina type place goes up every year. But well worth the convienace of not trailering allot. Nothing wrong with Kings landing, just farther up river, great fishing up near them bends. If your not always in a rush it is a very beautiful ride, especially this time of year. The best thing about Mary's is Gerry lets the hardcore guys stay in late until the end. All the Marina's over in Scituate Harbor are Oct 15th, and don't be there on the 16th. There is still another month of good inshore fishing till mid Nov.

Yes, the mouth of the river can make the most experienced hands white knuckled from time to time :eek5: . But just wait for the tide to change and the standing waves will settle a bit. Sometimes you have to think about not taking the kids. My young ones get scared at the mouth for good reason, hell I do too on some days. And if there is absolutely no wind the midgies are real tough :eek5:

Now the nice part is when the weather is bad there is great river fishing certain times of the year. May 15th to June 10th or so with a barrel of live mackeral fairly far up river is just plain outstanding :jump: Lots of fish at that time between 15 and 25 pounds, and there's always a few guys that nail some 30#ers. I'd be happy to show you some of my hot spots if you show me yours.

Maybe I'll see you next year. Unfortunately I am done for this year due to work :lossinit: Flag me down someday and we'll hook up.

Jon

Thanks Beamie. I am trading calls with both NRM and Kings. NRM is a better location for me, but either would work fine. Better than trailering.

I have not fished the N River at all (only family Spit trips) and only a little bit on the south shore. Most of my fishing is around the PTown area. Hopefully this mooring effort will change that and I'll be able to show you a spot or two!

I'll look for you next May!

Capecodder, get in touch with me too when you're ready. I've got some sweet spots in the area that I don't mind sharing. :smokin:
