View Full Version : Favorite Fluorocarbon?
Bob Thomas 10-10-2005, 11:38 AM I have a quickie question. What is your favorite Fluorocarbon leader and why? (Sorry...2 questions!)
I've been using Triple Fish for years but it seems to becoming harder to find. Seaguar seems a little pricy. What are the differences between them, other than price? (Ok...that makes 3....I'm done now ;) )
Thanks ahead of time!
fishweewee 10-10-2005, 11:41 AM Orvis Mirage. It is the most abrasion resistant of the leader materials I have used, IMO.
snake slinger 10-10-2005, 11:42 AM orvis mirage is my favorite thiner and softer holds up great in rocks.
Bob Thomas 10-10-2005, 11:45 AM Ahhh...maybe I should clarify, this leader is for jigging and spinning combos...does the mirage come in spools or is it just tippet material type flyfishing stuff?
Sorry :o
snake slinger 10-10-2005, 11:49 AM its leader material comes on a spool same as youve been useing
fishweewee 10-10-2005, 11:55 AM i use Orvis Mirage for spinning on rockpiles.
cheferson 10-10-2005, 12:07 PM orvis mirage, holds up great and is cheaper then seaguar, also you get 40m ( seaguar 25m?)per spool and only $16. They dont get more $$$ as the lb test goes up too.
Gloucester2 10-10-2005, 12:58 PM I've given up on it . . . I've tried Ande, Seaguar, Mirage, and others I don't recall - the common them with all of them is (in my experience) they shred . . . abrashion resistence stinks and as soon as I see one shred I change out the rig - wasted too much time - I'm back to Jinkai mono - even chunkin' tuna in the daylight.
Notaro 10-10-2005, 02:38 PM i dont see anything on orvis website that they sell anything besides 20 lbs test.
snake slinger 10-10-2005, 02:45 PM i get mine at quaker lane they have it rite on the self i think it goes up to 60lb
keeperreaper 10-10-2005, 02:53 PM Triplefish. Supple compared to others, cheaper, and has held up well in my opinion.
cheferson 10-10-2005, 03:03 PM i dont see anything on orvis website that they sell anything besides 20 lbs test.
Its sizing is based on the diameter, 80lb is .030", 60lb is .027"and 52lb is .025". Its right above where you saw the 20lb leader notaro. Mirage flourocarbon tippet
basswipe 10-10-2005, 04:19 PM I've started using the Ande.Cheaper than the Seaguar and holds up just as well.
Uncle Matt 10-11-2005, 05:35 PM Bob I like anything you have and bring with you. I'm not choosey.
