Didn't have a scale but largest measured 51". All released. Good luck. Congratulations!! That's a great fish. In fact, it's the biggest fish I have heard of except for the 61.5 caught on the Habs needle. And it was a rough night especially for a 62 year old guy like you. You are to be commended on landing a fish like that in this weather. eelman 10-14-2005, 10:06 AM This really is big news! A surf caught 50 !! JFigliuolo 10-14-2005, 10:21 AM he said 51" NOT 51 LBS. He stated is was real lean piemma 10-14-2005, 10:31 AM Typically a 50" fish is 50 LBs. At least that's what we have always figured. Usually, unless the fish is sick, a 51" fish will weigh a pound an inch. Even if it's a racer, and fish that big usually are not racers, the fish had to be damn close to 50 lbs. Just a huge fish fish for the 8 to 10 foot sea we fished in last night. Last night, I was several places with my partner from Westerly to 'Gansett. We fished with and spoke to 15 hardcore surfmen and we only saw 1 15lb fish caught. By my partner. NoSpots4U 10-14-2005, 10:36 AM Earlier this season, I got a 49" fish that was under 40#'s. Lean and mean I guess. Slingah 10-14-2005, 10:38 AM Typically a 50" fish is 50 LBs. At least that's what we have always figured. I cault a 51.5" fish two years ago that was just shy of 45lbs weighed in about 8 hours after catch....I sure thought it was a fifty JFigliuolo 10-14-2005, 10:39 AM Typically a 50" fish is 50 LBs. Don't get me wrong... great fish I'd be ecstatic, just may not be a fifty. I caught a 39" the other night that only weighed in at 17lbs NoSpots4U 10-14-2005, 10:41 AM Yup, I have caught several around 50" in the past 3 years that were well under 50#. I think the days of a 50 being a 50 are gone. At least in these parts. What do you guys think? RIROCKHOUND 10-14-2005, 10:43 AM From another site: 51" Max lb 62.0 Avg lb 55.0 Min lb 45.0 Congrats on a big fish NoSpots; noone I know has one close to that big this year.... eelman 10-14-2005, 10:44 AM Nope, in fact I think its the oppisite, there have been more 50lb and 60lb fish caught at block Island this year then any time since the 80s, granted most are from boat but whats the difference? it proves there out there. NoSpots4U 10-14-2005, 10:46 AM Nope, in fact I think its the oppisite, there have been more 50lb and 60lb fish caught at block Island this year then any time since the 80s, granted most are from boat but whats the difference? it proves there out there. Mine must be on Slim Fast. ;) eelman 10-14-2005, 10:49 AM Mine must be on Slim Fast. ;) I guess, but at anyrate the fish must have been at least 45-48lbs, Man with all the top dogs covering the whole coast last night from boat and shore and your the only one nailing these corker bass, you must be on to something. Congrats! spence 10-14-2005, 11:00 AM There must be a story? I can't imaging landing a fish that size in that wretched surf without some excitement... Please do tell. -spence JFigliuolo 10-14-2005, 11:11 AM I'd be driving home w/no drawers on. NoSpots4U 10-14-2005, 11:13 AM I'd be driving home w/no drawers on. :kewl: I,ve done that. :gu: Adam R 10-14-2005, 11:21 AM If the fish is measured from tip to fork at 50" it should be close to 50#. At 51" over all (tip to tip), the fork length may only be 48". Most of those weight charts are for fork length. 48" fork should be in the low to mid 40#'s range unless she was really fat. Regardless, it's still a great fish. Congrats! eelman 10-14-2005, 11:42 AM :kewl: I,ve done that. :gu: me too :gu: Nebe 10-14-2005, 01:10 PM Was a good night, I got 5 bass and 1 blue.
