Wife was bugging me to bring home a fresh eating-size fish . Last night I picked up couple and brought one home. The belly was pretty distended and after filleting it I took a look see....

2 lobsters and 30 baby scup about 2" long. (and it tried to eat a 9" Bernzy flaptail howdy as well)

One of you plug makers should make a "lobster Plug". I can't tell you how many of these I find in bass. I think it would work and I would love to be a field tester :wiggle: They make lobster flies but I need a 3oz plug that looks like a lobster running for its life.

There are several lobster patterns for flies. Davey Skok makes a slobster and a baby fluke.

Just a large crwadad lure right?

i once bought a lobster jig. it was 4 o/z jig imbeaded in a 5'' rubber molded
lobster, the body was 5 in with the claws dagleing about7 oveall. line attached middle of the curled tail and hook was in middle of the claws. i caught a lot of fish on it til it got hungup one day and i lost it.
i got it inland at the army navy in brattlebourough vt. i have never seen another one like it and it was the only one they had.
seems though some of you rubber makers could produce one. it looked exactly like a real lobster. sure wish i could find one like it

The thought actually crossed my mind, when I open it up and saw the contents, I said, "great, now I possess 2 undersize lobsters and 30 undersize scup (at $150/fish)." With my luck the constable will drive down my street just as I push them into the trashbag. :wall:

Black superstrike darter, but retreive it with a jerk here and there. Works for me when lobsters are present. I actually have thought of modifying one this winter to make it a little more realistic ....

black jig with black/orange uncle josh porker seems like a good choice to imitate a lobster.I know that color scheme works well for swimming plugs but it doesn't seem like it would have the action you would want.

This morning I cleaned a fish for a friend of mine, approx 15-18# and pulled 6 snapper blues 3-6.5" long and one partially digested mullet. It was unbelieveable, I never expected to find that much wedged in there.

A while back Charley Soares was giving a presentation at MSBA where he was going on about how since he finds so many lobsters in bass that he would try to make a lure like one. He had it there and I think it was made out of some kind of red/brown felt.

To his surprise, the only thing he said he ever caught with it was a cod.

I think some of you might be referring to the old PETRI Flounder and Lobster lures. Every once in a while a shop will have one on a shelf. I am pretty sure that they were made somewhere on the Cape and the few I mknew that actually learned how to fish them swore by them. Not sure if they are still made.

toddonbi
10-15-2005, 11:20 AM
PETRI is the one and they still make them the problem is finding a hook that goes with them. I've been cursing the ones i have-the small fluke version- because i cannot find a way to rig the rubber body functionaly. Kept it around as a novelty for some reason.

Mr. Sandman
10-15-2005, 01:20 PM
I have one of those petri-fish, a flounder lure. I am embarresed to say I have never fished it. I keep it around as a "conversation piece" I think I got it from the surfcaster a long time ago. I have a spare rubber body too. I didn't know they made a lobster look-a-like.

Rob, lure was called the Clobster, salesman remembers the distributor but doesnt think hes seen it in the catalog in recent years but hes going to check when he gets a chance since the store was busy when I flew thru on sat, also says it appeared hand packaged as in a small/garage operation. May well be the same lure mentioned above by Petri.

I caught a Cod last year that had 10 of that very same size Lobster!

But years ago thats all they used for bait!! Lobster tails were the thing to use, ask anyone that use to fish all the old fish stands!

it has been a decade since i held it in my hand. what did he discribe the lure to look like? im surprized he would remeber it

Vermonter

Rob.......had to go back and find this....went back to Sams(the army navy you mentioned) and reminded the sales guy I was the one who has stopped in before, interested in the clobster they used to sell....after a minute he then came out of the back room with one they had on the shelf collecting dust. Its approixmately 4 ounces, length is roughly 6 1/2 inches when fished since the tail curls around the help hide the lead weight and hook( plus im guessing the tail would give some nice lifelike movement when the lure was raised off the bottom on a slow retrieve). The overall color is a really dark green with some orange highlights along the edges of the main claws and straight orange only for the legs. Pics are so so since I took them at night and the camera is an early digital I use for onsite carpentry/woodworking projects.
The maker of the lure was Petri as others mentioned, tho instead of the Cape Cod address the label states NY.

Sand, havent got a clue at the moment about trading it, I was suprised enough to be handed one the other day since I went in hoping to get some mailing info at best. I can see where it would catch some fish around rocky structure. I know from reading old fishing diaries while living on the Vineyard that lobster tails were the go-to bait years ago, we've all seen lobsters in stomachs of stripers.

Vermonter
11-14-2005, 08:07 PM

If i run into him netime soon i will relay this thread to him, see what i can come up with.:chatter

Yeah I looked at it with the same thought in mind Sand, making a plaster cast for pouring that is. Done some plaster casts for renovating, tho I've never worked in soft rubber. Theres no street address, all it says is Copiague, NY. I'll try a google search with the idea of tracking it down, would hate to copy something that someone else is still making.
As for trading, tell you what, if I ever do decide to trade it, you'd be second in line after Rob. Id feel honor bound to offer it in trade to him first since he started this whole investigation by mentioning where he bought it, without that we wouldnt even have these pics to look at. Thats if mind you.

I had a fish wit 2 large lobster in its belly on 1lb an another 1.5 lbs.they where hard an in good shape.they looked cooked also.i guess the stomach acids do that.someone said i should fish the tails.but i didn't.I ate them. ;-)

I've caught bass wit some pretty big mantis shrimp in there.Only once have i got one wit an eel an it had 2 eels in there.U ever see em wit the flounder stacked up like pancakes.I have 2 sizes of the petri flounder.they are some LI dudes.like someone said father an son.
