When is it typically in zone 11? The question shows my ignorance. :conf:

This is cut and pasted from an older article in the Standard Times which "sevices" zone 11 :-)

The rut usually begins in mid-October when a few does may come into heat early. The peak of the rut usually occurs in mid-November when the majority of does come into heat. The bucks seek them out and with love in the air, those bucks travel far and wide, day and night.
When a buck smells a receptive doe, he's only got one thing on his mind and he loses all sense of caution, which can cause him to cross busy roads to get to the girl he smells on the other side.
If a buck tries to breed a doe that isn't quite ready yet, she'll trot away and he'll chase her until she is ready. The deer will often run across roads during the chase.
In areas of high-deer densities, such as here in Southeastern Massachusetts, the bucks just can't service all the does during the peak. The does that don't get bred will come into heat again about mid-December, the second rut, and the bucks will be seeking them out.

very little sign of pre rut right now. Pre rut in about 1 week and rut about 2 weeks

I'll be fishing Saturday night. You in? I got a doe yesterday so the pressure is off. Its nice to bag a deer early in the season for once. Bronko give me a call for weekend plans.

Get your butts out there the rut is on!! I had a very nice 8pter chasing a doe saturday afternnon around 3pm. She looked tired and thin. Wicked pissed<<<>>> I had him at full draw and was waiting for him to take another step into my shooting lane and I would have let one go. Freakin doe had just went by and he was on her,, but his instinchs new better, Mother Bleeber. Wasn't meant ta be.

they are running around like crazy. I have a real nice slammer I've seen twice but just not close enough to shoot. Patience will yield this big buck. I could have taken a decent 6 pointer but I've got plenty of meat and don't want to take a buck for the sake of taking a buck. I'll save the tag for a decent one.
