With less than a week to go before the end of the 60th Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish derby a 12-year-old up-Island girl kept a firm grip on her fishing rod in a driving rain and heaving swells to overcome a 49-pound striped bass and show that the Vineyard fishing classic is not just a big boy's game.

Molly Fischer and her proud father Albert Fischer 3rd attracted lots of attention when they walked into the Derby weigh station Sunday night.

I was just reading it....

She had a radio interview this morning on ROR. (before School)

She said only fished about 4-5 times during the whole tourny!!!!
Lucky kid, and she won some $$$ and tackle.

i met molly on stage at the awards she is a great young lady and has total support from her family. she is in the books forever as being the first junior to win the overall striped bass from boat.

i thought that first photo was cropped! :eek: that thing is ginormous, good for her. i guess boat fish do count. :rotfl: congrats to all, maybe i'll get over next year.

Whether you think the photo was cropped or not, a 49+ striper is an awesome catch! Give this 12 yr. old the credit due her and don't make any remarks about whether the photo was cropped or not. But she REELED it in fair and square!!!
I read that they were on a PAID charter boat fishing.
I would think that if you booked the best and most sucessful charter captain aroung for a tournament, that gives you an advantage over the average fisherman!!!


But anyway, congrats to her!!!

Thats why they have a boat division..Any body can do a charter..
