anyone had any experience with getting a van staal fixed- the nob on my hndle siezed up. should i just try to order a new one from them or do i have to mail the reel in ??

If you're any where near the shop I can fix it easily, that problem has happened to my little 100 a few times.

Try loosening the lock nut on the end, and then backing out the bolt that passes through the handle a turn or so, and then tighten the lock nut down again. That should fix it.

thanks peter- it happened while i was standing out on a rock in some very chitty weather over the weekend...... it was the same place where you got "rocked". i had the handle off of the reel while i was out there- as you know it is a long pain in the a-- walk back to the truck from there. i had it apart again when i got back to the shed and it seems like the bearing is frozen solid- reel is only about a month old.... if i dont have it resolved by the weekend i'll swing by the shop.....

If you do have to sedn it back, the response time from when you ship to when you get the reel back is less than 10 days. My 200 just seized up. Quick turn around and great service.

Mine did that a few weeks ago...it's easy to fix.

Mine did that once. Fixed it by doing what pete explained above.

Thinking about it a little more, get some red Loc-Tite before you make the adjustment. Put some on the threads and it should at least discourage it from happening in the future.

thanks for the tip on the loc tight...... i was pretty po'd while i was holding on and trying to get it to work........ it kinda defeats the purpose of speanding the $$$ if you still have to spend time worrying about it.

the worst a manual penn ever did was turn back and foul the line.... snapped a plug or 2 back but the handle never stopped turning....

I purchased a new 200 back in March of this year. While out at the vineyard recently it began to leak fluid both out of the spool shaft and handle where it attaches to the housing. I am preparing to send it out shortly for service. Have any of you guys experienced this problem and was the turnaround the same as striperhounds? I would like to use it for some late fall fishing and I am hoping it will be returned quickly.
