View Full Version : Do you know your breakwaters? Fish_Eye 02-26-2002, 10:44 PM Ok, here's an easy one. What breakwater is this: http://fisheye.striped-bass.com/images/feb/yellowbrick.jpg Fish_Eye 02-27-2002, 10:11 AM I can't believe nobody from here has been down this yellow brick road! Fish_Eye 02-27-2002, 03:36 PM Saltheart, Sounds like an "educated" guess to me...right on the money. Any fish on those stones? Anyone here been there -- fish resulting? Mike JohnR 02-27-2002, 03:52 PM What was killing me is that I thought the land mass off in the distance was Block (it is) but I was thinking that looked far to close. Originally it looked like if you were standing on the East Wall, which has some beach to it at the start but then it should curl right and it is far no where as banged up as the east wall - but then the Island looked too close :smash: ... Then I started thinking about the old Harbor jetty but was looking for the sand bars to the right (I guess they are further right)... I was stumped.... Never fished there although sometimes I've stayed in the B-n-B just above it ;) The fish I've gone after have been south & west of there ;) Saltheart 02-27-2002, 04:17 PM I used to sail to BI about 6 times a year and fished that spot often. Its nice cause you can walk there from The Great Salt Pond (anchorage) when you get board with Gracies. I used to row a dingie over to the narrow beach between the pond ad BI state beach then just a short walk to ballards and the breakwater. Good fish but I never got a trophy there. I once saw a guy walk off with a fish whose tail was still touching the rocks despite the fact he had it draped over one shoulder. Right place , right time , wrong pole!! :) I love Block Island. Sail out in 4 to 6 hours (sometimes more) and anchor in the pond for two weeks at no charge!! Launch service from Oldport, a guy who sells fresh baked pies to you right on the water (honest) , restaurants and bars , shops for the ladies and fishing everywhere. :) Oh BTW , the give away is the exposed sand along almost the entire length on the inside of the breakwater. Not many places like that. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
