View Full Version : With The Season Winding Down..... BigFish 10-29-2005, 09:21 AM What were some of your best moments? Best fish? Basically just what was your finest hour this season? Also any regrets? Who from the site were you fortunate enough to wet a line with? :buds: fishaholic18 10-29-2005, 09:29 AM Winding down???? The best has yet to come. Ask again in January... :rude: BigFish 10-29-2005, 09:32 AM My finest moment was fishing Cuttyhunk both times with Afterhours....what a great, fishy place.....can't wait till next year! :kewl: I also caught 98% of my fish this season on my own wood which was great....caught my biggest on my joined eel.....everytime I put them in the water the fish would not leave them alone! I caught on small howdy plugs, dannies, big mouth poppers in different sizes, jointed surfsters and jointed eels, jointed poppers, needlefish....and absolutely murdered them on my pencil popper....got lots more work to do this winter! I had the pleasure of fishing with many from this site.....spent most of my time with Afterhours, Slingah and Joey G......got to fish with MAC, Backbeach Jake, L.I.Fish.Vt, Tagger, Riverrat2, Squid Kids Dad a couple times, Van, BEETLE, Topwater, Lab1..... I know I must be forgetting a few! I regret not getting to fish the fall during the Red Sox Playoffs with Backbeach Jake....their stay in he post season was all too brief! I also did not get the chance to hook up with Piemma and RIRockhound.....that would have been great, maybe next season. :( striprman 10-29-2005, 09:33 AM I went 4 times this year, lost 2 big ones, caught a little one, and a blue. I hadn't gone for 3 years prior to that (disabled) I was happy just to get out. BigFish 10-29-2005, 09:35 AM I met Striprman on the Canal one morning...remember Steve? Swimmer 10-29-2005, 09:46 AM Everytime I went fishing with my brother. striprman 10-29-2005, 09:50 AM I met Striprman on the Canal one morning...remember Steve? Yes Bigfish. You looked like you were having fun testing your plugs. I had to check out the herring run to see exactly how bad it was this past year. It was really sad to see so few herring in the run. Looks like that river is headed for extinction. I wonder if there will be a complete ban on taking herring there (well, all the runs are kinda getting sparse). Makes sense to me. Larry, a good alewife or blueback immitation in the works ? We (me and 3 friends) had the 3rd week in July at the Scenic Park. Fishing was fair (my friends caught some blues and bass too). My back is too far gone to be throwing plugs but I wheelchair myself down to a rip, start chumming and set up a rod. I've caught some nice fish in the canal up to the second week in November. Still not too late (but with the snow comming down outside my window right now, I just want to put my down blanket over me and hibernate until spring) Redsoxticket 10-29-2005, 09:53 AM Winding down???? The best has yet to come. Ask again in January... :rude: :sled: Rappin Mikey 10-29-2005, 09:55 AM I'm sure you guys are sick of hearing about it, but I still have dreams about it at least once a week. That 2 hr blitz I was into. I probably had about 30 fish or so up to 30lbs on top water (salty buggers, guppy's, and gibbs) and Hab's needles. Not a short in the school either. I also know of at least 1 fish @ 50 that was taken out of there that morning as well. Didn't get to fish with as many people from the site as I wanted to, but got to wet a few lines with some great people. So hopefully I'll get to fish with more of you, and steal more of your plugs soon. Nebe 10-29-2005, 04:23 PM Today- I will tell the story in a week or two  :hidin: afterhours 10-29-2005, 04:31 PM had some great times fishing with bigfish and some others from the site. met some quality people this year! love that 'hunk! i think that my biggest is yet to come- 2 or 3 weeks away, wool cap and a/s glove time. caught some real nice fish on some of my unreleased protos' :hihi: Bass Babe 10-29-2005, 04:49 PM My most exciting moment of the season was definitely my first keeper. I wish I had simply gotten out more, or perhaps lived closer to the shore. Fished with a couple real nice guys from the site. One (I'm not naming names) is really a skilled, dedicated, and intuitive fisherman, and I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the next Frank Daignault (except WAY nicer) in ten or so years. Lots of talent around these parts, I must say. tynan19 10-29-2005, 05:15 PM Front page of the site says it all for me. The Derby was unbelievable. Best year yet and far from over. :ss: :walk: riverrat2 10-29-2005, 06:23 PM Other than september and october my season kinda sucked. October we had some good fish locally which was nice for a change. Got to fish with bigfish, slingah, joeyg, afterhours, torlando and redlite. I gotta thank bigfish for doing surgery on me that one night :claps: . Would have been a tough ride home if it wasn't for him and slingah. Sea Dangles 10-29-2005, 07:08 PM Last week of June on the annual family camping(fishing) trip to Truro. One week in heaven with gentleman fishing at its best. The local sharpies had been complaining about the lack of action and the imminant beach closure due to the PLOVERS.At first I was just happy to be there, but I wanted fish.Night fishing was nonexistent but pencils were working sporadically at daybreak at race point. Then all hell broke loose at the mission bell one morning for a lucky few.I had driven to the end of the beach and started working my way back when I noticed a two acre cloud in the first curl coming my way.Not only the sight but the sound of what went on for the next three hours was hard to do justice with words. It was impossible to cast and NOT hook up.Like Rappin' Mikey said all the fish put a good tug on the line and the bait was hitting the sand just to die with a tan.I actually went to wake up my sons at the campground and brought them back to catch fish in their underwear. The rest of the week brought reliable fishing as soon as it was light enough out to see the plug hit the water the fish would move in and it was as much topwater action as you could hope for.No korkers,no waders, not even a headlamp.Just shorts on and the toes in the sand at the most beautiful beach (longnook?) on the cape. mrstriper 10-29-2005, 08:04 PM fish with biteme 99% of the time...learned a lot about sandy neck this year as I bought a 4 wheel drive( makes it easy to carry a 100 plus plugs...although I catch most of my fish with a yozuri darter), biggest was 42"(yellow darter+ an afterhours spook), bumped into some guys from the site- and fished with hunan...had a lot of fun that night(effin hunan)...biggest"blitz" from a tourist spot(dowses)=about ten legals up to 38", didn't fish outer as much as usual secondary to the mung...blew up about three or four reels( where is the best place to get reels fixed, penn liveliner, penn slammer, acouple of shimano baitrunners, a nautil or two etc.), strange but only caught maybe three fish all year with the redgill, and got three fluke with a darter from the surf...only hoed biteme, which is great because first cast with his black swimmer produced a 38",of which he said what are you using(as the drag ws screaming out) and I said one of your plugs, and he says $^&*...I don't remember giving you that plug, also hope that I get to fish a few more weeks, but it was an okay year. Backbeach Jake 10-29-2005, 08:48 PM Lemme see Tagger, MAC, Indanite, Bigfish, Afterhours, Jigman,Throwing Timber, KarlF, Rappin'Mikey. More that won't come to my feeble old mind this late on a Saturday Night. These fine Fishermen are all guys I never met until I started haunting the Board. I consider myself lucky to have gained so many friends and grateful for these forums for making it possible. Thanks all! Yep Larry, Sox in playoffs is the ticket! But lets fish again next year anyway. It's you who bring in the big fish, BigFish! afterhours 10-30-2005, 07:50 AM one of highlights of this season for me was mother natures fierce lightning show on race point one night- awesome! was with bbjake, mac, slingah, bigfish, fishboy, and ....crs just took over. also fished with redneck24, finn-addict,skd, riverratt2 and..... l.i.fish.in.vt 10-30-2005, 08:55 AM got to fish with Bigfish, afterhours and squids dad early in the season. fished with Rappin Mikey quite a bit.meet Karl and Slipnot for a few hours. fished several morning with Slipnot.chased bluefish with MT striper and Mikey one morning.meet Bassmaster and his family, Backbeach jake several times, Jenn and Bruce camped across from me.ran into Mr striper and biteme late one night, several others that i can't remeber. the best part of this season was watching my 16 year old son get fishing fever after he saw TC's picture of his 60lber. itwasn't the best year in terms of fishing for me as far as bass go many small fish nothing over 22lbs more bluefish than i can ever remember.the last week of august, between me and my son we lost close to 40 pencil poppers to blues.hopefully i will get one more trip to LI mid november tobreak the 30lb mark afterhours 10-30-2005, 09:00 AM ...and i.l.fish.vt- damned crs, sorry john- pleasure to meet you! Nebe 10-30-2005, 10:15 AM Ok.. yesterday i got a phone call from a member here asking me if i knew of anything going on in my area. I said no i didnt and he told me he was going to go to a certian spot. I told him he was nutz to go there durring the day but he had a hunch. Sooo... about 2 hours later i get another phone call from him tellling me i had better get down there quick. I blast down on my lunch break and find him with a school of adult bunker being pushed up onto the beach by big bass. I tied on my trusty snagging hook which i have been carrying in my plugbag all season in anticipation and instantly snagged one. After hooking it, she sped off away from the school into the mouth of a giant bass. She swallowed it and i gave it about 5 or 6 seconds as she swam off, then i set the hook, or at least tried to set the hook. I couldnt seem to set it so i eneded up dropping the fish. I snagged another and gave it a 2nd whirl.... same thing i couldnt set up on the fish. 3rd time a bloofish bit off my snagging hook so i tied on a NIB yellow swimmer and on the first cast a 20 lber slammed it and did a full flip in the air. I beached it, said good bye and went home with a nice keeper for dinner. It wasnt the best fishing of the year for me, but it was the most fun by far. When you do so much night fishing, you dont see see that kind of action. It might be happening in front of you, but you never see it like you would at high noon. thanks for the phone call Chris :wiggle: Clammer 10-30-2005, 10:24 AM Every Time I Went Was the Best  But For Fun & Something Different //School Tuna On Spinning RoDs On Poppers WAs The Balls :wiggle: Nebe 10-30-2005, 10:53 AM But For Fun & Something Different //School Tuna On Spinning RoDs On Poppers WAs The Balls :wiggle: ohhhhhh man oh man, yes it was :humpty: A day i will neer forget. great company too :lasso: fishaholic18 10-30-2005, 11:28 AM Last night was reeeel good. macojoe 10-30-2005, 02:27 PM Well I did no fishing to speak of this year :( I did go after some Macks in the spring and then 1 Fluke trip. But my season was cut short cause of my wifes health. I only had the boat in the water 5 times all year and the last time was the first of June. I am hoping for a better year next year, and I think I am going to try a little more beach fishing? The only person I have fished with on this site this year is Bigbo. piemma 10-30-2005, 02:29 PM Best night I had for quantity was with my partner RI Rockhound in early Sept. We caught and released well over 50 Bass with more than half being legal keepers. After spending the morning before catching 22 bonito..What a place... The Maine Tri-State fishing under the Northern Lights one morning.. Squibby17 10-31-2005, 11:04 AM This was my first season as a regular browser and contributer on SB and I found a lot of insightfull tips and topics discussed. I Had my best year ever!! I didn't catch my biggest ever but caught more decent sized fish, fairly consistantly. My favorite moment this year was actually off shore. I got lucky and grabbed a spot on my friends boat and caught this beautiful Blue fin Tuna, see picture. I had some interaction with Big Fish and Sandman, Lurch and a few others but never did get to wet a line with anyone? So Seeing that the fish are not quite gone yet and I'm not ready to throw in the towel either. Any one want to meet up in Rhody this weekend? I'm probably going to make the trip regardless but if you want some company I would be happy to make one last push for a cow. By myself, I trip and fell backwards down a rocky slope in which I was luckily saved as my back slammed into the one rock that stuck up as opposed to the others which slope steeply toward the 10' rocky drop into a river. Near flood current running like a moon canal tide. I kinda felt like someone was watching out for me. Turns my stomach when I look at the spot and the serious danger I would have been if I had been a foot or so to the left or right. A few minutes later after getting my legs back, I hooked my second fish in three casts that I fought for at least 50 minutes before I did something stupid and my 50lb pp snapped. I don't know if I could have got that fish as even if it died I would have had a hard time dragging it back against the current and I couldn't get any closer due to obstructions. Only silver liing is that it was a place I fish regularly, where i never really expected to hook something that big and will be better prepared in the future. fish4striper 10-31-2005, 12:41 PM Just joined this site this year.
