im doing an improved version of the Christian popper i made for my very first swap 3 years ago, or was it 4 i dunno. every year been improving on it.

I assume you want 2 styles (I hope). I have ran these huge swaps a few times and it does get a little frustrating because it's hard to keep a deadline in your head for 4 months. So lets make a promise here that we will all meet the deadline. :alien: We should also make a promise that we all aren't going to make needlefish at the last second. We've all seen each others work for the most part, what if we requested styles from each other? That may send Tagger into fits as he knows Darters will be his request. SO everyone builds 16 of what they want to build and 16 of the requested plug... is this a good idea?

After all the plugs are in you will receive 22 different plugs as a late xmas present. The reason you get 22 is because you won't get your own plug back.

The 23rd plug from everybody will be put together in a set and given to John R to help the site.

The only thing that needs to be clarified is the Status of Karl F He was supposed to be in but somehow through a clerical error was Omitted. When he is added in (which shouldn't be a problem we just haven't heard officially from the guy running this) you can then add one plug to the bullet points listed above.

Paul - Make the needles. If you read more closely you'll see that I said that pertaining to the deadline. Very often, people end up making their plugs 4 days before or (20 days after :D ) the deadline and they all make needles. SO I was basically saying what tobias said... to be creative, your needles are the most intricate needles I have seen, hence..... very creative. :)

It will be each builders call on the with or without hooks. I know some will be with hooks because it's part of the lure. If you don't include hooks, please let us know what hooks should be put on the lure for optimum performance.

Usually all colors are the same. Makes it easier for Tobias to "divy up". He is going to have his hands full as it is. Believe me I know.

Just a thought but you may want to put all the info for this swap in the 1st entry of this thread, along with the list of participants. that way if people have any questions they can just go there instead of picking through all of the entries trying to get the right answer....it may cut down on the confusion.

You could also put down what plug each builder is making next to his name, that way not only can you keep track of what's being built, Some people who are still deciding on what to make can look at the list and get some ideas as to what's being made. (i.e. hmmm i see a lot of needles but I don't see any surfsters, maybe I'll make some of those.)

I picked up the wood last night and will start "Turnin' and Burnin'" this weekend.

My plan is to have all of them Spun, Sanded, Weighted, and Sealed by the end of the month....Then I can get them painted and epoxied after Xmas.

Make sure your hands are clean , wipe plug down with denatured alcahol , make sure to scuff , and make sure e-tex is warm and mixed well .

Denatured alcohol. That will not hurt the paint? Do you put a coat of clear over the paint and then scuff with a scotchbrite pad or just scuff the paint and then clean with den. alcohol. I think am contaminating the plug. Thanks Paul

epoxy will avoid the smallest dust particle for some reason .. Ya would think it would just incase it .. Eating fried chicken for dinner then handling your plugs a definate no no ..

show us one that peeled. or whatever problem your having.

ether your waiting too long to topcoat.
not scuff sanding in between coats.
mixing incompatable paints.
dirty hands.{that will cause fisheyes mostly.
some rattle cans have fish eye iliminator in them and nothing will stick on top of them.
enamel will stay soft, so when you put tha hard epoxy over it it will do some wierd stuff.

you gotta make sure it all "melts" together into one coat. not just one coat on top of another.

these are proto's ... top and bottom are the real thing plastic weigh 1.8 ounces.. The yellow/silver with silly cat eyes is white pine and will weigh 2 ounces.. The other 2 are hard maple and will weigh 3 ounces,, trying one of them set up more like a darter .. I'll test swim all three and make what I think is the best ,,. unless anybody has any preferrence... I'm really liking the yellow with silver scale ,nevr did that before .. 1 question .. am I suppose to be making one for Nib ?

tagger, I think they need to be light to swim right, I could be wrong. The one with the cat eyes looks fine. I made mine out of red cedar and they work well, just not very heavy so they don't cast real far but then again they are not needles or poppers anyway.

I am tetering on whether to do howdys or hawg hunter pencils.

I took a Hawg hunter pencil the small one cast like crap an it was the squid color.hat didin't catch anything.I took it apart an made it 3.5 onces not sure how heavey it was before.I also painted it yellow.Now it cast's like a rocket One of the best casters I have,an catches.

Tagger U know I will have only nice things to say bout my fellow builders work.

You have no idea how many plugs i trashed last step .. epoxy .. almost quit cause of it ... I still fear it ..

I will probably always be gun shy. Don't really care that much if I screw up my own but when they are going to others it adds a little extra pressure. I ain't given up though.

I'll weight them to just float. Brad didn't make then all the same and many sank but they catch fish. These will cast and fish great.

Epoxy? Paul, when you get to that part call me, you might want to use something else if it's giving you fits. I'll help you out.

I spun mine this past weekend, have all the holes drilled too.....Tonight I'm going to put the cups in for the mouth. hopefully they will be all sealed after this weekend and ready for some paint

With the hooks on the plugs, the more likely the recipients are to use them :)

32 in primer, sand sometime this week. I think this is the biggest run I've ever done:spin:

I got mine all painted and all the Hardware is on.....just need to epoxy them and throw on some hooks and they will be on there way.

Arg i'm waiting on a heater for my garage so i can start @@#%&$.Hopefully it will be here this week.

got the 2nd coat of primer on my 30 and ready for painting. Have some time off at the end of this week so I will be painting. I like how mine are coming along.

12 epoxied now ... I think i put 3 full days in and a lot of bits and pieces... hangers add alot of time ..

Well finally got mine turned and into the sealer. Should be ready to ship in about 2 weeks.

Painted 30 flaptails, a few atoms and a mouse (freshwater) tonight. I dunno how you guys do runs of 100 or 200 plugs. They're not perfection but Im pretty sure the bass'll like em :uhuh:

That was a career night. I want another like that. I've been fishing that beach at that spot since I was 12 or so. Use to ride my bike ( brand new from the Truro dump) over from my Grandparent's house on Bay View Road. About 1964. That was my BEST night. Fishing with good friends and catching with my own wood. Well, I was down in the Cave , clearing plugs tonight and the lights went out. Pitch black with a wet plug in my hand. Good thing Wifey heard me yell "That's just PISSA!" and brought a flashlight. Surrounded by dripping epoxy in the dark ain't good.:hs: Three hours later the lights came back on. If I was in Truro it'd be 3 days.
