View Full Version : Where is it? And why do you think it's a great spot?

Here's a spot that might be a little more difficult for you guys and gals to figure out.

http://fisheye.striped-bass.com/images/march/davepoint.jpg

Where is it?

Why do you suppose it's a terrific place to fish?

Bonus question: Who's standing on the rock?

Looks like a spot I know.....but ain't sure........then again....it looks like about three spots I know....

I'd assume that's mid to high tide?.....

Watch Hill?

High tide at C.B.

But - what the heck is that can doing there? I retract my answer...

Looks like another one of the beautiful places I haven't had a chance to fish yet. :(

By the looks of the can to the right of the rocks I would say there is probably some moving water. A combination of the correct tide and wind probably fills that patch of rocks with Striper Food:happy:

i believe i know, but i plead the 5th.

i just want to know why this angler is there during the day!? does the guy know a little about lures???

Dunno....looks to me like it's getting close to sunset.......perhaps he's just starting out?

Fish_Eye

SeaWolf,

What makes you think he wasn't there before the sun came up!

Note the amber hue of the sky...it's just after sun up.

Now you know the compass orientation, you've got a can as a reference point...I know some of you fish this area...and I'm not telling where it is..........................yet!

I was thinking Sunrise, like the end of a good night or a few casts before work.

Slipknot

well it's not Hull and I don't think it's Cuttyhunk.
How about Rocky Point?

Could this be the Sakonnet River point where it meets the ocean, Tiverton side? Looks like I've been by there in a boat before.

You know all the good spots Mike.:p

Ah....bummer...yeah, it is just sun up. The reflection in the splashing wave in the lower left corner had me thinking the other way, but after looking closer at the shodows on the rocks.......

Mike,
I believe that clump of rocks is just to the left of a pretty well known breachway, a relatively QUiet area, in front of a stretch of beach homes where parking is alright after early September. I've had some success there on the outgoing, but certainly need to give it another shot this season.

I REALLY like the breachway though :D

Well Bloo, if it is that way then it's still a long walk but not as far. But are there rocks there? I don't think so.

Fish_Eye
03-05-2002, 07:15 PM
Bloo,

The only thing I can say is, "You're on the right planet, just not the right spot -- not even remotely close!"

Tattoo,

I can safely say, "You have never walked to this spot!"

And I'm sure a few people on this board have fished this area.

Last guess, Southeast corner of MV, all I can think of since there is no land masses out in the picture just wide open ocean. It can't be Cuttyhunk because of the bouy is too close. So it is either MV or somewhere in RI where I have never been.

It may be easy for you Mike but I give up.

Fish_Eye
03-06-2002, 12:08 AM
Slip,

Don't give up, you have come closer than anyone else. I'll give you a few more hints in the morning.

JohnR
03-06-2002, 08:26 AM
No where near Chappy, the Southeast corner is all sand... MOF - other than a small outcropping/dilapidate jetty 2/3 up Cape Pogue, I don't think there are any large rocks on Chappy. You get some smaller bowling ball ones up under the light...

Northeast corner of Cuttyhunk?

Fishpart
03-06-2002, 08:31 AM
Maps and charts read with north up so it is the SE corner of something.

I was thinking it might be the prototype for the Nexium commercial:laughs:

Fish_Eye

This honey of a spot is located on Cuttyhunk.

http://fisheye.striped-bass.com/images/march/cuttyharbor.jpg

The island runs East to West and this is the tip of the island next to the channel that separates it from its neighboring island.

Now why do you suppose this is a fantastic place to find fish?

Slipknot
03-06-2002, 09:55 AM
Der, because the water flowing thru the channel. I looked at a map and didn't think it was at Canapitsit channel but I guess I was wrong. Good one Mike.

Fish_Eye

Actually, it looks more like Kings Beach from the full photo you attached. Were you standing near an old boat ramp and then took a picture looking to the east? If so, you're at Kings Beach looking at Prices Neck and Cherry Neck is further to the east.

Lands end is down the road a bit and it looks like this:
