Serious question for you folks - I'm putting together an effort to really make this site something special. What I am looking for from you all is what would you find really cool? What do you really want in a fishing website and how can I bring that to you? What do we have now that you would like to improve upon? I can't promise the world but I really would like to see this site do something that nobody else is doing - knowhadimean?

We have a great group of people here and I believe that is really something special and I want to bring this to the ultimate level for what you guys and gals really want.

Sincerely,

John Redmond

More input directly from manufactures, or representatives of....

Example: Van Staal - So many questions, theories, hype, gossip....let's hear it right from the horses mouth. I am not picking on VS, but it's the first one that comes to mind.

John,
The site is great now but how about adding a boating forum? There are alot of guys who visit in here who fish from boats as well as surf.
Thanks

Adding too many forums isn't necessarily a good thing. I say that because then you spread out people and threads sometimes don't clearly fit nicely into the "boating" or "surf casting" niche. I also think that surf guys can learn from boat guys and boat guys can learn from surf guys, plus I enjoy reading about multiple approaches to numerous species. If anything, you might want to consider a freshwater forum, if there are some guys lurking about that fish sweetwater as well.

Maybe a little more in the way of instructional stuff. Steve's got the reel maintanance, others can contribute on rod building, plug making, certain specific presentations, boat care, the list would be endless as far as that is concerned. Develop a striped-bass library of sorts. Be nice to maybe catalog certain threads that develop as part of that library, if they are important and likely to come up over and over again.

I'm not sure you want to get crazy, because it would be a shame to loose that cozy feeling we have right now, but I know change is like taxes...can't be avoided.

I have not been around long enought to say what has been good in the past but for me a boat fishing forum would be great but it should be in with the surf? I also like the cozy feel of the site:)

I like the site we have it's a good forum to learn in. I like having a site where we can share and learn. It's also good to be able to meet and get together with other people. I've met and fished with soem good people that I wouldn't have met otherwise. I do like the idea of expanding our articles.

It will be nice once we can weild the same power as some of the fishing clubs.

I like this site alot, and keep spending more time in here.
What would be real cool is a photo peg board where we could thumbnail pictures and pull them up. Lotts of great shots here, but when there gone its tuff to find them again

A Krispy, I believe there already is one of those.
ya gotta spend even more time looking around the site. it's there somewhere.

I like the site, but I think bassmaster should do giveaways here like MikeCC does. He has too many plugs, it's not fair :smash:

John,
Could you add a pull down menu of links like you have on the left side of the main page so we could jump straight to articles or pictures or such....

Krispy - do you mean the Gallery Pages? http://www.striped-bass.com/gallery/Gallery1/index.html

I still like the sandbar, but I had another idea.
People are alway looking for boats how about a used boat sales area with links.
Heres a couple that I check regularly, I don't look at the boston globe or herald classified they don't sort very well.

Slip, I've been to the Gallery. I thought a forum page to post all the pics of lures and fish shots that that are gone after a thread dies

Ahhh - I get you what you are saying, yeh, I do want to work up a way to do that instead of attaching photos. All attached photos stay in the database and it gets huge fast... I'm working on that one now...

Fishsmith - I like the "Sandbar" too but I don't think I'll be running that here  :laughs: - My wife would shoot me, plus I'm thinking of a kids section...

John,

As a newbie: owning a boat (196 Starcraft fishmaster)bigger than a canoe & striper fishing I'm looking for tips, tricks and much ado about how to. Would like to see jpegs/gifs, etc. of various rigs and setups, what works and whats myth. Where to go, and getting there info.

I will say though that I registered and posted a
newbie type question and received excellent responses. Thank you. I look foward to gaining enough experience to become a contributor.
Till then my quest is to learn when, where and how. Think I'm gonna like it here.

Maybe some informational stuff like a bio on the different species in our area. Bass, blues, cod, flounder, etc. When they are here, their feeding habits... basic stuff. Include current regs.

Then maybe from there, you could link to articles about specific techniques for them (from our local experts)

Maybe a similar feature for the forage species in the area. When they are here, where they hang out. This would be a great reference. Again, you could link to an article about catching this bait for livelining for example.

The idea of a boating forum is good, but I kinda agree with GS, I wouldn't want to break things up. It seems to flow well already. Someone brought up a "boat fix-it" forum... maybe that would be a better way to handle it.

Something I think would be cool, would be a forum or page where some of us who have fished other areas of the country could post a brief story/article about the trip. Then if others were headed to that area, we could provide some info (i.e. guide info if they were good). My wife's been wanting to go to Bermuda or the Bahamas for a few years... I'd love to be able to see if anyone had been there and knew a bit about possible fishing in that area. By the same token, I've fished the Indian River, FL a couple times and will again in April. I'm becoming fairly knowledgable about the area.

I think a really good thing would be to give us all avenues to voicing our opinions to the regulatory agencies. How can we be heard? Who can we contact? Most people have pretty strong opinions on alot of these issues, but don't know how to voice them. Attending meetings isn't always possible. But if its as easy as sending email, or writing a letter... maybe more of us would get involved.

Okay, OK

so I went looking for the "sandbar" and ended up in some bikini contest thingie. Anyone care to point me in the right direction. I assume the sandbar is a chat room about fishing, DOH!:smash:

John the only thing I would recommend is a way to get back out to the main page from here. If you click on the striper it puts you to the main forum. There is no way to get to the articles from the forum, or the sponsers links. Now hoew do I find the sandbar that Glen is talking about? :D

well I like it the way it is . Maybe a drawing I could win would be nice ! I agree with GS I only visit this forum for the most part . Too many forums and some people dont poke their heads in the door of other forums .

How about a sandbar with a bikini contest ?
I know of a radio station that had a contest involving ........
