A wise man once told me a patent/copyright was only worth how much you were willing to spend (lawyers) to defend it . . .

Sorry to say I have seen several flag plugs on a few of the fresh water sites. I will say though yours are by far the best. P.

No need to copyright,
Freak your plug stands out not because of the flag but by the man who defines it.
To think anyones plug would hold value as a "copy" to your work of art is ridiculess. To me its the man behind the work that matters. And your Number 1.
Your just like DaVinci!

I'll second that! Your work stands alone. Makes the rest look disrespectful in their execution. One can see the love in your FreakFlags. I admire that.:claps:

50 years from now any collector will spot a true "freak flag" a mile a way.:hihi:

Often emulated, never duplicated.

thanks guys.
just brainstorming i guess.
the wife is on me to copywright it or do something.
i've had people want to buy them and i'm kinda leery about it. i tell them they are not for sale. the last one i did i traded some guy down in jersey for a fire chiefs helmet for my kid.

let me ask you guys another question,,, and be honest......
what are they worth?

not the ones i did on macs plugs or slips or larrys or anyone elses plugs. or the ones i painted for auctions, or saltys friggin' three foot log.
what if i did them on my own blanks?
not like i'm gunna start mass producing them but i just wanna have an idea of value for myself??
my wife says put one on freakbay and see what it goes for? but i don't like that idea.

Mike - you have created a identity that many will try to emulate, but none will be anywhere as good as you are! You are the one and only!!

As far as worth goes...many want your plug for the sheer single genius of it. I for one will hang it to show all what a true master craftsman you really are. There is no way to put a monetary cost to a work such as yours. If you really wanted to put a price on that work of art you would have to hold an auction, but you would only find what the highest bidder at the time would pay not what it really means to serious plugmakers.

I agree with all the comments about your work "standing out". I can also add that the patent process is long and expensive. I have worked on a few patents and am in the process of filing another (medical stuff). If you want an idea of what it would run you, I could give you some #'s.

Give me a few and I'll se how much I can make on Ebay for ya :hihi:
but from a monetary point, if you produce volume, it won't be as original but if you were to do a numbered set of 20, you could have a legit "run" of plugs.

Seriously - I am not an expert on custom plugs in any form but there are some watershed moments in modern plug building and on the ultra custom side - your Flag Pikie is the first rank. There are a lot of prime builders, painters, and plug engineers here and elsewhere that do truly fantastic work, but the Freak Flag is at the top with a few select others. There are a few others at the top too that are watershed plugs - certainly to me, and you know who you are :hee: .

Mike...you would be selling those to collectors...I don't think anyone would fish a flag painted plug, especially one as nice as yours! An idea........get your hands on some worn out, vintage, classic wood....strip them down, repaint them with the flag and sell them.....classic, made in America vintage wood draped in red, white and blue!:bgi:

Capitalism at its best!

Freak as for a price? I'm gonna e-mail you. Don't want to get in trouble for talking money and offending anyone. That is unless I get an okay from the boss.
